The Governor-General, wearing blue and gold fromthe medal ribbon colours, assisted by NationalPresident, Major Earle Jennings AM RFD ED,unveiled a plaque marking the dedication. Under it isthe special 50cent coined minted by the RoyalAustralian Mint to mark the day and also the 60thanniversary of National Service in 2011. Alongside itis the National Service medal.The plaque, set on one of the sandstone benches around the Memorial, tells the story of the twoNational Service schemes – 1951 to 1959 and 1964, when the second National Service Act was passed,to 1972. The fountain itself bears the simple inscription “ Dedicated to all Australian NationalServicemen and in memory of those who died”.PAGE 4
