22 nd AnnualCHAP <strong>Homeschool</strong> <strong>Convention</strong>May 9 – 10, <strong>2008</strong><strong>Convention</strong> Hours:Friday, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.—Free Early Session; No Vendor Hall9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.What Is CHAP?CHAP is the <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>Homeschool</strong> <strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Pennsylvania</strong>,a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization founded to encourage and supportfamilies interested in home education. CHAP assists parentsin understanding the <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> homeschool law.CHAP provides leadership and direction for homeschoolers ona national and statewide basis. News and updates can be foundat www.CHAPonline.com, in the CHAP Magazine, and bysubscribing to the CHAP e-News and the CHAP e-Alert. AllCHAP board members are unpaid volunteers. CHAP does notgive, rent, or sell, its mailing list.The CHAP Booth (109–110) is located across the aisle fromthe Information Area in the Vendor Hall. The booth is staffedto answer any questions you may have about homeschooling,CHAP, and its ministries.Farm Show Complex Information:No food or drink may be brought into the Farm Show Complex.Please be above reproach and respect the rules <strong>of</strong> the facility.The Farm Show has one ATM machine located outside the mainentrance. Please consult your complex map for exact locationdenoted “$.” The emergency phone number for the Farm ShowComplex during the hours <strong>of</strong> the convention is 717-783-2815.Wristbands:If you lose your wristband there will be a $3 handling fee toreplace it. Go to the Special Registration Area for assistance.Wristbands are nontransferable.Children:The convention is designed for parents to examine andpurchase curriculum; and attend seminars and workshops forencouragement, inspiration, and education. Child care is notprovided. Children must be supervised at all times by eithera parent or another responsible adult. Since seminars andworkshops are being recorded, we would like to provide qualityrecordings without extraneous sounds. Children may attend,with a parent, seminar sessions as long as they are quiet. Wewould suggest sitting on an aisle, near an exit, in order to leavequickly if the child becomes noisy.Nursing Mothers’ RoomFacilities will be available for nursing mothers, but baby-careproducts are not provided. Only very young children mayaccompany their mothers into the Nursing Mothers’ Room,located in the Vendor Hall, near EH3.No Food or Drink:No food or drink may be brought into the Farm Showbuilding by order <strong>of</strong> the Farm Show. You are welcome to goto your car to eat a sack lunch but please be above reproachand do not bring food or drink into the Farm Show building.This is not CHAP’s rule but the Farm Show’s policy.Audio Recording:All <strong>of</strong> the sessions will be audio recorded. CDs may be purchasedat the <strong>Convention</strong> Recording Booth at the convention or afterthe convention at www.CHAPonline.com. Personal audio andvideo recorders are prohibited. When picking up CDs, pleaseallow one hour after your last session.Wheeled Vehicles:Strollers and small wheeled items for your shopping convenienceare permitted. Wagons, tricycles, scooters, roller blades, etc., arenot permitted.Book Check:For a small charge, the book check, located at booth #106, willpackage your purchases into sturdy boxes and hold them untilyou are ready to leave for the day. Consult the complex map forthe book check pick-up, where you can load your purchases.Additional <strong>Convention</strong> Exit:This year attendees may utilize the Vendor Hall exit, locatednear EH2, to exit the building in order to more easily carryparcels to their car.Solicitation Prohibited:No solicitation or distribution <strong>of</strong> material, polling, or interviewingis permitted at the Farm Show Complex indoors or in the parkingarea during the CHAP <strong>Homeschool</strong> <strong>Convention</strong>. Violators willbe prosecuted and asked to leave the convention.CHAP Magazine:The CHAP Magazine, formerly known as the CHAP Newsletterand formerly mailed to convention attendees, is undergoinga transformation to better minister to the homeschoolers <strong>of</strong><strong>Pennsylvania</strong>. The CHAP Magazine will be mailed quarterly tohomeschooling families across <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> who are members<strong>of</strong> CHAP. It contains encouragement and information on eventsand issues pertinent to home educators including articles <strong>of</strong>encouragement, academic items for sale, etc. Please see theCHAP membership information inside the front cover. If you donot receive an issue, please contact the CHAP <strong>of</strong>fice. Issues aremailed mid-summer, mid-fall, mid-winter, and mid-spring.Visiting Legislators, Candidates, and Public Officials:These public servants are invited to attend the CHAP <strong>Convention</strong>as our guests. CHAP does not endorse any candidates for <strong>of</strong>ficebut instead uses their attendance at the CHAP <strong>Convention</strong> toacquaint them with home education as a successful, proveneducational choice. Feel free to introduce yourselves to themand ask them questions! Candidates are not authorized tomake the CHAP <strong>Convention</strong> a time for general solicitationsor distributing campaign material. In the context <strong>of</strong> a personalconversation, they may hand out business cards or other smallcards indicating where an interested person could obtain moreinformation or campaign material.Announcing!Support Group Leaders’Town Hall MeetingSaturday, 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.Join other support group leaders for dessert and a time to shareideas during a town hall meeting. Stop by the CHAP booth(109–110 in the Vendor Hall) to register for the meetingand dessert.<strong>Convention</strong> Ins and Outs 3
