FACT SHEETAfghan Development Association (ADA)Background/HistoryADA is a Non-Government, Non-Profit and Non-Political Organization. It promotes andprovides Development and Humanitarian related services to the people of Afghanistan. Sinceits inception in 1990, ADA has provided assistance in a myriad of sectors to the most povertystrickencommunities across Afghanistan. In the course of its operations, ADA has broughthope and optimism to communities, through provision of basic services, resettlement ofreturning refugees, internally displaced persons, and introduction of integrated ruraldevelopment programs, education and capacity building. With a strong focus on peoplecentered approach, ADA has a participatory planning process with a mission to strengthenand enrich the lives of the poor, with the ultimate goal of eradication of poverty fromAfghanistan. Too often, services fail poor people, in access, quantity and in quality. Realizingthis, ADA’s primary goal is to improve service provision by making it people-centric. ADA ishighly sensitive to communal and individual differences; and ADA strives to pay theoutmost respect to the communities it aims to serve. Transparency, accountability andefficiency are the driving factors when delivering goods and services to the people ofAfghanistan.ADA endeavors to reach the most disadvantaged groups in Afghan society, often undervery difficult circumstances. ADA has provided much needed assistance to the mostsusceptible and marginalized groups including returning refugees, internally displacedpersons, poor families, women, the unemployed, the uneducated as well as tocommunity based organizations. Particular attention is also given to the agriculturalsector and rural activities that can contribute to more productive and sustainablelivelihoods at the grass-roots level. ADA has classified its objectives as current, short termand medium to long term, depending on different programs and strategies (please referto ADA’s Five Year Strategic Plan).ADA has long standing relationships with its target communities. It is operational ingeographic regions where insecurity has kept most of the development organizations away.ADA enjoys respect and trust of communities in these areas. It strongly believes in longterm sustainable development of its target areas for the communities to becomeincreasingly self-reliant and economically stable. In doing so ADA believes in communityempowerment through capacity building to decide and design for themselvesdevelopment interventions which have a lasting effect on the area. ADA has a specificmethodology for its development work, where the communities are at center of allactivities throughout project life cycle. In view of its vision and mission ADA exists forbringing positive and sustainable changes in lives of the target people. In addition to localcommunities, ADA also realizes the importance of local government departments, privatesector and partner organizations to be involved in the development cycle to ensuresustainability and widespread benefits.ADA believes that women, youth, disabled and the marginalized and disadvantagedpeople are key factors when building and furthering the development of communitiesacross Afghanistan. Hence, ADA has developed several programs that are peoplecentered, participatory and invlove broad participation of key stakeholders includingwomen, the youth and the disabeled.Status ofRegistration andRegistration: Ministry of Economy (MoEc), GIRoA (Registration No. 105)1 Fact Sheet | ADA
