<strong>Pharmacology</strong> Module OverviewIntroductionAs the EMS pr<strong>of</strong>ession matures so do the roles and responsibilities <strong>of</strong> itspractitioners. One such change is the scope <strong>of</strong> practice, which now encompasses agreater role in pre-hospital medication administration. The following module is anintroduction to medication administration. In no way is this module to beconsidered the only education the EMT requires to remain competent inmedication administration. Ongoing research and continuing education must besought out to ensure the EMT is always aware <strong>of</strong> changes with regard to in scopemedication. This ongoing education provides protection for the EMT, thepr<strong>of</strong>ession and most importantly the patient.Learning ObjectivesUpon completion <strong>of</strong> this module the EMT will be able to:1. Identify medication sources, routes and packaging.2. Define the pharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic phases.3. Discuss and perform safe medication administration.4.
