FOCUS ON FILMLOCATION SPOTLIGHT: COMMUNITYCENTERS IN PALM BEACH COUNTYNorth Palm BeachComm. CenterCommunity centers are the heart of anycommunity and provide opportunities forresidents to enrich their lives with classesand meeting space, pool activities as well asafter school programs, and recreation foryoung and old. From the filmmakers perspective, community centers can often doubleas many locations. The North PalmBeach Community Center is a contemporary building with sharpangles, a courtyard style entry and a large gymnasium. It sits on12 acres with outdoor activities including fitness trails, children’splay area and sports fields. It could easily double as a corporateheadquarters or a school from the exterior. South Olive CommunityCenter in West Palm Beach has the lookof a police station or town hall with a largecircular driveway. There is a large meetingroom and kitchen onsite as well as sportsfields that were recently used for a teasertrailer for an independent film.Lake OkeechobeeOutpostLake Okeechobee Outpost CommunityRoom is a facility that boasts a party roomwith floor to ceiling windows that look outover the 2nd largest fresh water lake in theUS. A large lakefront pool, outdoor tiki baras well as a lodge style meeting room witha floor to ceiling stone feature wall, soaringceilings and unlimited potential for filmmakers looking for a uniquelakefront setting. The Spanish River Library and Community Centerhas the Spanish architecture that is common in Boca Raton. The building houses several meeting rooms, a conference room, and of course the library but the most impressive feature is thesprawling lakeside terrace which could lend itself to a big socialscene for a television show or feature film.Community Centers are great for filmmakerslooking to do a lot with a tight budget andoffer added value to the filmmaker who mayneed a space to hold extras, or serve ameal.
