Service DefinitionsIMR – Inspection, Maintenance & RecertificationPeriodic inspection and testing of flexible pipe and hoseassemblies is an essential component of any successfulequipment maintenance program. Additionally, flexible pipeand hose assemblies being removed and re-inserted for anew job, operation or contract should also be inspected andtested to ensure the integrity of the hose meets the demandsof the application. In applications such as drilling, servicing orstimulation, an Inspection, Maintenance and Recertificationprogram will help maximize asset reliability and uptime.Gates Engineering & Services offers a complete hosemanagement program tailored to meet your requirementswhile ensuring compliance with the industry standards. Withover 20 years of experience in hose revalidation services forthe oil and gas industry, and 100 years of hose manufacturingexpertise, Gates E&S will demonstrate the essential skill tocarry out Inspection, Maintenance and Recertification of hosesto comply with revalidation procedures specified by the OEMor recommended best practices, while also following industrystandards.Application requirements, as well as industry standards, requiremanufacturers to vary hose construction to maximize servicelife. Every flexible hose assembly has three main parts: cover, tube and reinforcement. Due to its construction, three stages ofinspection are required before putting a hose back into service.Visual Exterior ExaminationAfter internal and external cleaning takes place and hoseinformation is recorded, a physical and visual inspection isthe first component of the re-validation process. Checkingall aspects of the hose and coupling integrity along with thecondition of the end terminations, and cover of the hose is vital toensure maximum life. Examination may be documented utilizingdigital still and video imagery.Visual Interior ExaminationOnce the exterior examination is complete and the hose haspassed stage 1, internal examination of the hose assembly maybe performed. A digital video scope recording camera is usedto examine the inner tube of the hose assembly. Tears, gouges, abrasions and cracks are identified and noted. These attacks tothe inner tube of the hose can cause rejection of the assemblyfor further stages of recertification, at which point no pressuretest will be performed.Hydrostatic TestingAfter stages 1 and 2 are performed and successfully completed, the hose is prepared for a hydrostatic test. Hydrostatic tests areused to verify the integrity of the hose and coupling interface,as well as confirm the reinforcement is completely intact.Hydrostatic testing is important for pressure hoses in the interestof equipment safety and durability under standard operatingpressures and procedures. Hydrostatic testing is conducted inaccordance with the OEMs specification, industry standardsand/or specific customer requirements. At this point, the hoseassembly is inspected for leaks, measured and recorded. For example, in accordance with API RP53, API RP17B, API 7Kand API 16C, these test pressures are relevant to:• WP 5,000 PSI OEM TP 10,000 PSI• WP 10,000 PSI OEM TP 15,000 PSI• WP 15,000 PSI OEM TP 22,500 PSIPressure testing capabilities include:• 60,000 psi pressure test• 25,000 psi pressure test and chart recording• 45,000 psi pressure test and chart recording• 2,000 psi pressure test (high volume)• Die penetrant testing• Air/water submersion leak testingGates E&S provides the end user with the followingdocumentation (subject to all intervention being successful):• Inspection Report (original)• Pressure Test Certificate (original)• Dual Pen Chart (attested true copy)• Calibration Certificates (attested true copies)• Release Note from Certified 3rd Party (attested true copies)• Endoscopic Video (optional at extra cost, if required)33498-HV06/2011
