Creating LeadersLEADERSHIP DOUGLAS COUNTYJune’s Topic: Arts, Culture and MediaThe Cherokee Ranch and <strong>Castle</strong> was the perfect venue forthe Arts, Culture and Media session <strong>of</strong> Leadership DouglasCounty. With new cultural centers opening throughout theCounty and other programs in each community expanding,we see arts and culture as not only an enhancement to ourquality <strong>of</strong> life, but also as an economic engine for DouglasCounty.The cultural opportunities that are blossoming in DouglasCounty contribute to making us the hotbed <strong>of</strong> culturalactivity in Colorado. The session wrapped up withNatalie Tysdal, KWGN-TV Anchor and Chris Michelwicz <strong>of</strong>Community Media <strong>of</strong> Colorado, formerly ColoradoCommunity Newspapers, discussing the quickly changingmedia environment and how one gets the attention <strong>of</strong> thenews media.Steering Committee Planners were Debi Haning andKristin Hayek.LDC’s Class <strong>of</strong> 2011 GraduationOn June 1st, the 2011 Leadership Douglas County Classcelebrated completion <strong>of</strong> the 10-month program with theirgraduation held at the Cherokee Ranch and <strong>Castle</strong>. Morethan 100 attendees were welcomed by Suzette Rodriguezand Kevin Duffy, the 2011 Leadership Co-Chairs and PamRidler, President and CEO for the <strong>Castle</strong> <strong>Rock</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong>.The Keynote Speaker was Reverend Leon Kelly, ExecutiveDirector <strong>of</strong> Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives, who has animpressive leadership history. Rev. Kelly’s call to action hasled him to be widely recognized throughout the region andhonored by many who work in the field <strong>of</strong> non-pr<strong>of</strong>its, lawenforcement, sports, media, education, and governmentagencies. He is a role model for future leaders, inspiringthem by example.Leadership Douglas County is designed to broaden participantknowledge <strong>of</strong> the community while enhancing leadershipskills, which in turn increases the strength and effectiveness<strong>of</strong> our new community leaders.
