NEWSLETTER

WELCOME TO SEASON 2011/2012 - From The President

On behalf of the new committee for the 2011/12 season, I would like to welcome you to the

club for what will be an exciting new season for our great club.

My name is Paul Glew and I have the honour to be the current President of the Bentleigh

Cricket Club. It is my role to help guide the club (with our Executive team and General

committee members), through the next phase of our club’s continual development.

My history at the club dates back over 25 years and includes roles on the general and

executive committee for the past 6 years as well as a long history of playing as both a junior

and a senior player. I have a strong passion for our great club and I am very excited about the

year ahead.

We are privileged to have a terrific Executive team made up of Vice President –Brad Coppens,

Treasurer – Paul Ciccarella, Secretary – Matthew Thorp, Junior Co-ordinator Steve

McGinness and Social Secretary – James Robertson. Our General committee is made up

with great club people that are also committed to improving the club. It is especially pleasing

to welcome several new member of the committee including Russell Keyt, Winnie Lim and

Vernessa Johnstone.

We have a great list of loyal and dedicated members currently at our club, and I know that they

will all be giving 100% in order to reach the goal of a premiership. Chris Street will continue

his work as senior coach and will be assisting our playing group to improve and reach their

individual goals.

I am pleased to welcome back Adam Ryan as the 1 st XI Captain. Adam has a long history with

the St Kilda District Cricket Club and it fantastic to see a Bentleigh Junior return home. I

would also like to welcome the other new players who have signed on for the coming year;

Dave Gelbart, Paul Summerskill and Antonio Mullins.

Some of our key projects, aims and initiatives underway for 2011 include:

•Increasing Junior family participation within the club

We as a team are committed to continuing the solid foundations of management set at the

club and hope to make our own special impact and contribution for the years ahead.

We welcome feedback at all times and would like any concerns brought to the committee as

soon as possible, for an amicable resolution to be made, for the good of the children and

volunteers of the club.

Bentleigh Launches Cricket Academy

After months of planning, Bentleigh Cricket Club has officially launched its Cricket Academy.

The Bentleigh Cricket Club Cricket Academy is a joint partnership between the Bentleigh Cricket Club and

Woodards Bentleigh that seeks to provide a pathway for junior cricketers moving from junior to senior

cricket.

This will be done by providing specialist coaching in the areas of Batting, Bowling, Fielding and Fitness, in

order to better develop participants skills and their general understanding of the game.

One of the goals of the Academy will be to provide young cricketers with the tools that will enable them to

progress through to the 1 st XI at Bentleigh, and beyond.

The Academy will focus on encouraging, preparing and developing junior cricketers to pursue their goals in

the sport, and to assist them in achieving at their highest level possible, be that at Bentleigh, Premier

League, State or International level.

Players will be selected by the Cricket Department and are invited to take part in the Academy prior to the

start of each season.

By providing junior players this opportunity, the Academy aims to retain young people in cricket and help

them to maintain and improve their ability and skill level, affording them the opportunity to progress within

the sport.

The Academy is proudly supported and sponsored by Woodards Bentleigh.

Glen Eira Council Community Grant

Bentleigh was awarded a grant in the 2011-2012 Glen Eira City Council Community Grants Program.

Council's community grant program assists not-for-profit, community based organisations to

implement projects and activities which meet identified community priorities and which benefit Glen

Eira ratepayers.

The aim of the program is to strengthen community connections; develop an accessible and inclusive

community; encourage community initiatives that promote self-sufficiency and innovations; and help

strengthen local participation in the planning and implementation of services.

The Club was awarded funding to assist with the purchase and installation of audio visual equipment in

the social rooms at Bentleigh Reserve. This equipment will be used by members to make

presentations, speeches and addresses and will allow the club to become self-sufficient in hosting its

own social functions, such as the junior presentation night, without the need to hire audio equipment.

Bentleigh Cricket Club acknowledges and thanks Glen Eira City Council for their continued and

ongoing support of the Club.
