1958-2008a dream come true

Soon after taking up hisassignment in 1957 asApostolic Delegate forthe British dominions inEastern and WesternAfrica, MonsignorGastone Mojaisky-Perrelli wrote to thefounder of Opus Dei, StJosemaría Escrivá,requesting him to starta Catholic University inKenya. In 1958 somemembers of Opus Deiarrived in Kenya to seeto it.

From 9.00 a.m.lectures, students,authorities preparedfor the ceremony

At about 10.00 the President and Prime Minister arrived

He signed the guest book and

unveiled the commemorative plaque at the Auditorium

The lecturers formed the procession and waited

Until the President and his entourage were ready

The National Anthem was played

The University Choir sang two songs

A Giriama Group performed a traditional dance

After which the President granted the Charter to Professor T. Ryan

Who handed it over to the Pro Chancellor Msgr. A. Pampillon

Who together with Prof. T. Ryan robbed the Vice Chancellor

Who then received the Charter from the Pro Chancellor

Before the speeches the Apostolic Nuncio Alain Paul Charles Lebeaupinlead the prayer

The Vice Chancellor Prof. John Odhiambo spoke

followed by the Pro Chancellor

Dr. Sally Kosgey Minister for Higher Education

Hon. Raila Odinga, Prime Minister and MP for Langata

and finally the President

After his speech the National Anthem was played

And the ceremony was over
