www.praxiscare.org.uk 01ForewordIn the thirtieth year of Praxis Care, the organisation canlook back on many years of significant support beinggiven to service users across mental ill health, learningdisability, acquired brain injury and dementia services. It can equally look forward to the same support beingexperienced by service users in the future but in avery dynamic and ever challenging environment. Thisenvironment will present considerable financial issuesfor the organisation but also considerable opportunitiesfor its growth. Thus, in this past year, Praxis Care hassought to maximise those opportunities and securePraxis Care’s position as part of the solution for theconundrum of more care and support being neededfor vulnerable groups in society but less money beingavailable to pay for that care and support.Praxis Care has demonstrated both quality and valuefor money in its thirty years history. Consistent withresearch from around the world, it can, as a charity, deliver up to 30% more quality services at the samecost to the taxpayer and this is a message Praxis Carehas delivered to politicians and Trusts over this pastyear and will continue to do so. In recognition of this, many of the political manifestos this year referencedthe importance of the voluntary sector as part of thesolution to the financial crisis. This year has also cemented active participation byservice users in all areas of the organisation andthis is the way forward. There has been increasedservice user involvement in staff recruitment panels, presentations for tenders for new care services andin many other areas of the organisation. Systemshave been put in place to enable this to increase andPraxis Care welcomes this involvement.Praxis Care volunteers are also key contributorsto the Big Society and give added value to theorganisation. Praxis Care has sought to increasevoluntary activity this year through developing aculture of social responsibility in new and existingstaff through advertising volunteering opportunitiesand raising the expectation of involvement at therecruitment stage. Praxis Care is also keen to coordinatevolunteering opportunities for the generalpublic and has committed finance to the employmentof a Volunteer Co-ordinator.Staff can look to its thirtieth year as a year wherePraxis Care has established its credentials as acharity which is ready, willing and able to do whatis necessary to deliver affordable, high quality, sustainable services to the most vulnerable individualsin society.Nevin Ringland - Chief Executive & FounderWJ Canning - ChairmanNorthern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, England and Isle of ManPraxis Care Annual Report 2010/2011
