Each year the Annual Report provides a valuable opportunity to assess the many
accomplishments and challenges experienced in the prior year.
In reviewing the last year’s events, ‘branching out‘ emerged as a common topic and
therefore, was selected as the theme for our 2010 Annual Report. In these pages, you
will read about the numerous ways we have ‘branched out’. Here are a few highlights.
Perhaps the most visible example is our new Serenity House. If you’ve driven down Carrillo Street towards Santa Barbara
lately, you may have noticed how far the construction on the new House has progressed. The opening is close at hand
and we are honored to be able to offer this important option to our hospice patients and their families. Recently Don
Schumacher, President of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Association, was given a tour and declared, “This will be
the most beautiful hospice house in the entire country!” Thanks to the generosity of individuals and foundations, the new
Serenity House will double the number of beds available by the end of 2011.
We are also ‘branching out’ when it comes to providing home health, hospice and personal care services to more members
of our community. This was especially evident in the
Santa Ynez and Lompoc Valleys. We also re-located

In another arena, we are hoping you have already “liked” us on Facebook. 2010 saw us ‘branching out’ into new forms of
communication, including Twitter, LinkedIn and a blog – all of which can be accessed through our expanded website at
www.vnhcsb.org.
As we have since 1908, we continue to embrace new endeavors, to grow in the ways we serve our community. We are able to
do this because of your generous and ongoing support. This report includes a list of all of the individuals, organizations and
foundations that contributed to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care throughout 2010. We are truly grateful to our donors as well
as the patients and families it has been our privilege to serve.
