FredDirected by Goran Ribarić2012 | 13’13” | hdcam | ColourThis is a film about a normal day in the life of a youngman called Fred. He is likeable, charming, goodlooking, funny and successful. At the same time, he isa coward, a liar, and a cheat. White lies, black lies; whocares, as long as he can continue being an immatureand selfish child. Is he ever going to change? Maybehe will, maybe he won’t, but from his perspective, it isdefinitely easier to drift through life, thinking just abouthimself and no-one else, than to occasionally admitto the world – and to himself – that he is acting like adouche.Cast Frano Mašković, Nataša Janjić, Marica VidušićVrdoljak, Vedran Živolić, Filip NolaWritten by Ana GrlićCinematography Tomislav SutlarEditing Denis GolenjaArt Direction Nikolina VelaCostume Design Iva ŠimunovićMusic Marko Sumrak, Mario Dragičević, Goran BunčićSound Design Iva IvanProduced by Ivana Grubišić PerišićProduction Company Academy of Dramatic Art(adu)Festivals & Awards 2012· 10 th Zagreb Film Festival – Checkers ProgrammeGoran Ribarić (1990) – Selected Filmography· Weekend | Vikend (2011) – short fictionAcademy of Dramatic Art(ADU)Trg maršala Tita 510 000 Zagreb, CroatiaTel: +385 (0)1 4828 506Fax: +385 (0)1 4828 508web@adu.hrwww.adu.unizg.hrShort Fiction Films 2012 17

Two Furnaces for Udarnik Josip TrojkoDvije peći za udarnika Josipa TrojkaDirected by Goran Dević2012 | 32’ | dcp, DigiBetaColour, b/wTwo Furnaces for Udarnik Josip Trojko follows the disassemblingof the famous Siemens-Martin furnace, whichonce stood at the heart of the huge Yugoslavian iron industry. The sons of former steel workers slowly take apart theold furnace, and then construct a new, larger, more modernfurnace into which the pieces of the old furnace are fed.As we watch the old making way for the new, we hearoff-camera archive recordings of political speeches, full ofenthusiasm and ideological optimism, from the period whenthe old furnace was in operation. We also hear a voicefrom the past reading telegrams from Tito to the formerforge workers, congratulating them on their tireless effortsat meeting production targets. The flow of the speechesfollows the rhythm of construction of the new furnace todemonstrate that life, like steel, always continues to flow.Written by Goran DevićCinematography Jure ČernecEditing Vanja SirućekSound Design Davor TatićProduced by Hrvoje OsvadićProduction Company Petnaesta umjetnost; in coproductionwith Croatian Radiotelevision (hrt), Tunafilm (Croatia), Alka film (Croatia), Kinoljetka (Croatia)Festivals & Awards 2012· 18 th Sarajevo Film Festival – Competition ProgrammeDocumentary FilmGoran Dević (1971) – Selected Filmography· Don Juan: Excuse Me Miss | Don Juan: Oprostitegospođice (2010) – documentary· The Flood | Poplava (2010) – documentary· The Blacks | Crnci (2009, co-dir. Behind the Looking Glass | Iza ogledalaDirected by Jagoda Kaloper2012 | 47’ | Beta sp | ColourBehind the Looking Glass is a self-portrait that juxtaposesa succession of film clips dating from 1965to the present, showing how other people perceivethe filmmaker, with introspective self-portrait videofootage shot over the past decade. The film is both acollage and a dialogue; it examines Jagoda Kaloper’slife and the ‘lives’ of over 20 fictional characters thatshe played as an actress. This impressionist crosssectionof a bygone era depicts the evolution of acomplex female character, over a period of more thanhalf a century. 8’22’’Directed by Leona Kadijević2012 | 4’57’’ | Video | Colour8’22’’ is an experimental animated film where thetangible natural processes and events which takeplace around us on a daily basis are captured, in orderto represent the passing of time as a component partof life. It examines our curiosity and our desire to knoweverything about the natural events happening aroundus, as well as our inability to perceive them completely, which at times can lead us to ignore them. Perhapswe are just helplessly mesmerised by our obsessions,so our bodies become machines or objects that areused in the most inconvenient way, although we arepart of the same natural world that fascinates us.Concept and realization by Leona KadijevićProduced by Leona KadijevićProduction Company Academy of Fine Arts (alu)Festivals & Awards 2012· 9 th Animateka International Animation Film Festival –Eastern and Central European Panorama· 12 e Festival international des écoles de cinema(fidec) – International Competition· 44 th Revue of Croatian Film and Video (1)· 2 nd Award for Best FilmLeona Kadijević (1990) – Selected Filmography· Secrets… | Tajna… (2009) – animated shortAcademy of Fine Arts (ALU)Ilica 8510 000 Zagreb, CroatiaTel: +385 (0)1 3711 300Fax: +385 (0)1 3773 401alu@alu.hrkadijevic.leona@gmail.comwww.alu.hrAnimated Short Films 2012 47

Transecho·Directed by Nikola Radović2012 | 8’40’’ | DigiBeta | ColourThrough the thick darkness of a tunnel, fragile wallsvibrate. In the dark distance a ray of light suddenlyblinks, but a moment later a strong energy burst fliesrapidly in front of the camera and exits the frame. We enter an abstract and completely unfamiliarworld. A black silhouette on the horizon echoes thesleepy, almost frozen landscape. It looks like a tower, but a tower that is capable of movement. The ritualcontractions and the buckling choreography of itsbody invoke chaos, the ritual of transmutation andthe re-establishment of the initial state of profoundstillness. FrontaDirected by Goran Škofić2012 | 7’59” | DigiBeta | ColourAt first one, then two characters pass by, then awhole army starts marching like a river of multipliedcharacters, and all their permutations: this is the basicmodel that creates the story. By using a white visualbackground and a hybrid sound, we follow images ofthe army and soldiers, colonies, parades, scenes thatflow continually, representing the mass of uniformedbodies as the representation of power. The artist’sbody is multiplied, dressed in the conventional darksuit of a serious yuppie, without specific marks ofidentity. The work presents an ordinary man who, through the process of being multiplied, becomes asort of corporation.Written by Goran ŠkofićAnimation Goran Škofić, Fran Sokolić, fagepCinematography Goran ŠkofićEditing Fran Sokolić, fagepArt Direction Goran ŠkofićSound Design Ivan ArnoldProduced by Damir ČučićProduction Company Milva film & video; in co-productionwith Museum of Contemporary Art (Croatia)Festivals & Awards 2012· 8 th 25 fps International Experimental Film and VideoFestival – Focus on Croatia· 16 th International Video Festival Videomedeja (1)· Bogdanka Poznanović AwardGoran Škofić (1979) – Selected Filmography· E-body 25 (2005) – short experimental· Pilot 0.1 (2002) – short experimental· House of Dolls | Kuća lutaka (2001) – shortexperimentalMilva film & videoLangova 6310 430 Samobor, CroatiaTel: +385 (0)1 3362 132Fax: +385 (0)1 3362 799damir.cucic@zg.t-com.hrShort Experimental Films 2012 71

An occasional narrator’svoice in the background confronts our objectiveknowledge about the origins of mankind with theartificial images of two caricatured characters.Cast Alen Čelić, Romano DautanacWritten by Sunčica FradelićCinematography Boris PoljakEditing Sunčica FradelićArt Direction Sunčica FradelićCostume Design Zorana FrkićChoreography Alen Čelić, Sunčica FradelićSound Design Tonči TafraProduced by Sunčica FradelićProduction Company Kino klub SplitFestivals & Awards 2012· 21 st Days of Croatian Film· 5 th Xontakt Festival SplitSunčica Fradelic (1979) – SelectedFilmography· Fish Soup | Riblja juha (2011) – short fiction; segmentof omnibus Fish· Ellipse (2005) – short experimental72 Short Experimental Films 2012
