At their January meeting,the SSC Board heard reports oncampus activities, approved anincrease in hybrid and onlinecourse fees and reviewed theterms of the President’s employment.Prior to the meeting, the Regentshad lunch in the newlyrenovatedE.T. Dunlap StudentUnion and toured improvementsmade to the facility over the holidaybreak.During the President’s reportto the Board, Dr. Jim Utterbackreported on recent events and activitiesat the <strong>College</strong> since thebeginning of the new year.He also provided the Regentswith a document reviewing thehighlights of 2011. The documentis available to the publiconline at: http://www.sscok.edu/Highlights.pdf.The President also invitedthe Board to participate in HigherEducation Day at the Capitol activitieson Feb 21.First on the agenda, the boardreviewed and approved a requestto revise the course fee for hybridAT&T Supports SSC President’sLeadership Class ProgramTo help <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>prepare students for leadershiproles in their communitiesand the <strong>State</strong>, AT&T has made a$5,000 contribution in support oftheir efforts.“Few things are more importantto the future of our statethan teaching the skills of leadershipto the next generation,”said AT&T Oklahoma PresidentBryan Gonterman. “We believevery strongly in our obligation togive back and to invest in organizationsthat are investing in ourfuture, so we are very pleased tobe able to make this contributionto support the work of the President’sLeadership Class programat <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>.”The $5,000 AT&T Foundationcontribution will support thePresident's Leadership Class programin preparing members of thisgroup to develop their leadershipskills and take on leadership roleson campus, in the community andthroughout Oklahoma. The groupis composed of diverse populationsrepresenting under-representedminorities, first-generationcollege students and studentsfrom small, rural communities.“The Presidential LeadershipClass provides students withunique opportunities to fostertheir leadership skills while developingacademic growth,” said<strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> President,Dr. James Utterback who institutedthe program in 2007. “Weare very appreciative of AT&T’scommitment to our program andto the students participating init.”PLC is a two-year scholarshipprogram created to help students(continued on page 6)and online classes from $10 percourse to $10 per credit hour.This fee will be used to coverincreasing costs of online and hybridclasses and will only applyto those courses.Utterback explained that thechange in this fee was needed dueto an interpretation of an Oklahoma<strong>State</strong> Regents for HigherEducation rule which will not allowcharges for these courses tobe handled as in the past.The board retired into executivesession to discuss terms ofemployment for the President’s2012 contract. After returning toopen session, the Board voted torenew Utterback’s contract witha raise.Regent David Wilson, amember of the Board CompensationCommittee that reviewed thePresident’s contract, added, “Thisis the first raise the <strong>College</strong> hasbeen able to give Dr. Utterbackin three years.
