This research was undertaken for Ethical Sugar, an NGO that seeks to enhancedialogue within the sugar-ethanol industry with a view to improving its social andenvironmental sustainability. Trade unions, companies, civil society activists andacademics are all brought together as part of this dialogue, which allows Ethical Sugar toconstruct a more rounded vision of the different situations and positions that pertain inthe industry.In 2009, Ethical sugar obtained a score 8 out of the maximum of 10 on NGOTransparency barometer from the Prometheus Foundation. In 2010, Ethical Sugarobtained the maximum notation from Prometheus FoundationThe Prometheus Foundation was launched on December 27, 2005 by Frenchparliamentarians.In 2008, Ethical sugar joined the international Sustainable Earth Alliance network.Sustainable Earth is an informal alliance, made up of individuals and organizations witha willingness to work sufficiently strong to match the challenges they face. These menand women together build synergies, a relationship of trust and concrete initiatives.Since 2006, Ethical Sugar has been a member of the Better Sugarcane Initiative (BSI).The BSI is a global multi-stakeholder non-pro$ t initiative dedicated to reduce theenvironmental and social impacts of sugar cane production.Since 2010 Ethical-Sugar is member of the chamber 4 fr Social Rights of the RSB.
