Thus, it is essential to read this component operatingmanual before carrying out any work using this sensor. In addition tothis manual, the SAFETY chapter of the IQ SENSOR NET systemoperating manual must be followed.Always keep this component operating manual together with thesystem operating manual and any other component operating manualsin the vicinity of the IQ SENSOR NET system.Special userqualificationsGeneral safetyinstructionsThe D.O. sensor was developed for applications in onlinemeasurement - essentially in wastewater treatment plants. SafetyTriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW)2.1 Authorized useThe authorized use of the TriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW) comprises its useas a D.O. sensor in the IQ SENSOR NET.The technical specifications according to chapter 7 TECHNICAL DATAmust be observed. Only operation according to the instructions in thisoperating manual is authorized.Any other use is considered to be unauthorized. Unauthorized useinvalidates any claims with regard to the guarantee.CautionOnly connect and operate the sensor together with IQ SENSOR NETaccessories.2.2 General safety instructionsThe sensor left the factory in a safe and secure technical condition.Function andoperational safetyThe failure-free function and operational safety of the sensor is onlyguaranteed if the generally applicable safety measures and the specialsafety instructions in this operating manual are followed during its use.The failure-free function and operational safety of the sensor is onlyguaranteed under the environmental conditions that are specified inchapter 7 TECHNICAL DATA.The specified temperature (chapter 7 TECHNICAL DATA) must bemaintained during the operation and transport of the sensor. Protectthe sensor, particularly against frost or overheating.CautionThe sensor may only be opened by specialists authorized byWTW. TriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW)SafetySafe operationIf safe operation is no longer possible, the sensor must be taken out ofoperation and secured against inadvertent operation.Safe operation is no longer possible if the sensor:• has been damaged in transport• has been stored under adverse conditions for a lengthy period oftime• is visibly damaged• no longer operates as described in this manual.If you are in any doubt, contact the supplier of your sensor.Obligations of theoperatorThe operator of the sensor must ensure that the following rules andregulations are followed when dealing with hazardous substances:• EEC directives for protective labor legislation• National protective labor legislation• Safety regulations• Safety data sheets of the chemical manufacturer.2 - 3

CommissioningTriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW)Connecting the sensorto the sensorconnection cable1 Take the protective caps off the plug connections of the sensorandSACIQ sensor connection cable and keep them safe.2 Plug the jack of the SACIQ sensor connection cable onto theplug head connector of the sensor. TriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW)Commissioning3.3 Commissioning / Getting the instrument ready formeasuring1 Pull the protective cap off the protective hood of the sensor.2 Leave the sensor to lie in the air for at least 60 minutes while itis switched on (polarization).NoteFor the sensor to polarize, the following conditions must be fulfilled:• The sensor is connected with the IQ SENSOR NET system via theSACIQ sensor connection cable.• The IQ SENSOR NET system is in operation• The sensor has been identified by the IQ SENSOR NET system.3 If required, assign a user-defined name to the sensor (seerelevant IQ SENSOR NET system operating manual).4 Set the sensor (see section 3.4).5 Calibrate the sensor (see section 4.2 CALIBRATION).NoteBoth sensor variants, TriOxmatic 700 IQ and TriOxmatic 700 IQ SW,run under the designation TriOxmatic700IQ in the IQ SENSOR NETsoftware.PrecisionmeasurementsRecommendation: In order to carry out precision measurements, leavethe sensor to polarize for a longer period of time, e.g. overnight, andrecalibrate it the following day.3 - 3

Themeasured value is available immediately on submersing.4.2 Calibration4.2.1 General information on calibrationWhy calibrate?When to calibrate?Calibration procedure,During the operation of a D.O. sensor, the slope of the D.O. sensorchanges with time. The calibration procedure determines the currentslope of the sensor.Calibrate before measuring and at regular intervals (depending on theapplication).Ideally, calibration takes place in water vapor-saturated air. To do so,position the sensor approx. 2 cm above a water surface, for example ina narrow bucket or similar container with water.In the case of air temperatures under 5 °C we recommend to calibratenot in air but in air-saturated water that has a higher temperature. Youobtain air-saturated water by pouring water several times in and out oftwo vessels so that it sparkles.NoteFor calibration the membrane always has to be clean, for calibration inair it has to be dry. Clean contaminated sensors before calibration (seesection 5.2 CLEANING THE SENSOR SHAFT AND MEMBRANE).Calibration record /calibration historyMaintenance conditionThe result of a calibration is stored in the calibration record andcalibration history respectively and can be viewed afterwards (seerespective IQ SENSOR NET system operating manual).During calibration the sensor is in the so-called maintenance condition.This means all linked outputs retain their momentary state. Afterfinishing calibration the maintenance condition has to be switched offmanually. For more detailed information on the maintenance conditionplease refer to the respective IQ SENSOR NET system operatingmanual.4 - 1


Measuring / OperationTriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW)General course of acalibration on theIQ SENSOR NETGenerally, calibration on the IQ SENSOR NET is carried out as follows.System specific details are given in the respective IQ SENSOR NETsystem operating manual.1 Switch to the measured value display with m and select thesensor to be calibrated.2 Call up calibration with c.The next step switches on the maintenance condition for thesensor. A corresponding note appears on the display.3 Confirm the note with g.The maintenance condition is active.The menu-guided calibration routine starts.Follow the instructions on the display.After the calibration routine is finished, the measured valuedisplay appears again (the measured value flashes becausethe sensor is still in the maintenance condition).4 If the calibration was successful, bring the sensor into themeasuring position.5 Wait for a stable measured value.6 Switch off the maintenance condition.4.2.2 Calibration in water vapor-saturated air1 If necessary, clean the sensor and membrane and dry themembrane (see section 5.2 CLEANING THE SENSOR SHAFT ANDMEMBRANE).2 Start calibration and follow the instruction on the display untilthe instruction Bring sensor into calibrating position appears.Calibrating position2cm4 - 2

The system continues to work with the old calibrationdata. However, you have to switch off the maintenance condition in anycase.After starting the determination of calibration data with the g key (step4), you cannot break off the calibration any more.4 Continue with g.The calibration data is automatically determined anddocumented in the calibration record.5 Complete the calibration procedure according to theinstructions on the display.NoteIn the case of air temperatures under 5 °C do not calibrate the sensorin air but in air-saturated water that has a higher temperature. Measuring / OperationTriOxmatic ® 700 IQ (SW)4.3 Function checkThe function check is the simplest way of letting you know whether thesensor needs to be cleaned and calibrated.NoteThe function check can either be performed in water vapor-saturatedair or in air-saturated water.In the case of air temperatures under 5 °C we recommend to performthe function check not in air but in air-saturated water that has a highertemperature.NoteThe function check is carried out in the measuring mode, % saturation.When switching to the measuring mode % saturation, information onlinked outputs is lost.Function check in watervapor-saturated airProceed as follows:1 Take the sensor out of the measuring solution and position itapprox. 2 cm above a water surface, best in a narrow bucket orsimilar container with water. When doing so, no liquid shouldbe brought on the membrane.2cm2 Wait at least 15 minutes for the temperature to adapt.3 In the sensor setting table, select the measuring modeSaturation (unit %) and switch to the measured value displaywith m.4 Read the measured value and determine whether it lies withinthe range of precision required by the user.NoteIf there are large temperature differences between the sample and theair above the surface of the water, a balancing period of more than15 minutes may be required.4 - 4

When handling aceticacid, always wear protective gloves and protective goggles.4 Carefully clean the sensor shaft and membrane as specifiedin the CLEANING AGENTS section.CautionClean the membrane very carefully!Make sure the membrane is not damaged, e.g. by sharp-edgedobjects, by laying it on sharp stones, etc.5 - 2

The electrolyte solutionand membrane cap must only be replaced if:• the membrane is heavily contaminated and a calibration erroroccurs (log book message)• the membrane is damaged(log book message)• the electrolyte solution is depleted or the counter electrode ispoisoned (log book message)• after the gold working electrode and silver counter electrode havebeen cleanedNoteInformation on the contents and structure of the log book and how youcan call it up is given in the LOG BOOK chapter of the IQ SENSOR NETsystem operating manual.NoteUnscrew the membrane cap for maintenance purposes only. Afterdoing so, always use a new membrane cap!WarningContact with the sample can lead to danger to the user!Depending on the type of sample, suitable protective measuresmust be taken (protective clothing, protective goggles, etc.).CautionThe ELY/A electrolyte solution irritates eyes, skin and mucusmembranes. This is necessary for the operation of the sensor.This is not contamination. Cleaning is only required in cases of slopesthat are too small or too large (the sensor cannot then be calibrated)that cannot be resolved by changing the membrane cap and electrolytesolution.CautionTo clean the electrodes, always unscrew the sensor from theSACIQ sensor connection cable. Otherwise, undesirableelectrochemical reactions can occur that may lead to thedestruction of the sensor.Preparatory activities1 Pull the sensor out of the sample and remove any coarsecontamination from the sensor (e.g. brush it off in a bucket oftapwater, wash it down with a hose or wash it off with a cloth).2 Unscrew the sensor from the SACIQ sensor connection cable.3 Place the protective cap on the sensor plug head connectorand on the SACIQ sensor connection cable each time so thatno moisture or dirt can get on the contacting surfaces.4 Unscrew the protective hood from the sensor.CautionThe ELY/A electrolyte solution irritates eyes, skin and mucusmembranes. If it comes into contact with the eyes, rinsethoroughly with water and consult a doctor! During workingactivities, always wear suitable protective gloves and protectivegoggles/face shield! For safety, however, we recommendto also clean the silver counter electrode (see section 5.4.2) and to usea new membrane cap afterwards.5.4.2 Cleaning the silver counter electrodeWe recommend to clean the silver counter electrode with the RA 600cleaning attachment that is available as an accessory (see section5.8 MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT AND REPLACEMENT PARTS). This preventsthe reference electrode from coming into contact with the cleaningsolution. However, it is also possible to clean the silver counterelectrode in a beaker.CautionThe reference electrode must not come into contact with thecleaning solution under any circumstances. This could destroythe reference electrode and cause the sensor to becomedefective. However, no danger can arise if the RA 600 is usedcorrectly.5 - 11

Therefore, calibration of the sensor inoxygen-free solution is not provided.However, it is possible to check the freedom from zero-currentaccording to DIN EN 25814/ISO 5814.
