OP 3 - WORDS - Family relationships - Here are some questions for you… The reference is to the situation in Illustrated English, Lesson 3. (The parents' names are invented.) Tom and Mary Johnson have got a boy and a girl, so… How many sons have they got? How many daughters? How many children? And… how many "kids"? Their daughter, Liza, is ten. Is she a teenager? Their son, Timmy, is fifteen. Is he a teenager? Mary's cousin is a pilot in the air force. Is he fifteen or fifty? 18 One / They've got one son. One / They've got one daughter. Two / They've got two children. Two / They've got two kids. No, she isn't. Yes, he is. He's fifty.
OP 3 - FOCUS - Contractions: "is" or "has"? - Let's practise contractions… Feed the non-contracted sentence. Student supplies the natural, contracted version. (Try to convey the message that your version is not very natural.) Jane is a student. She is seventeen. She has got a cousin. His name is James. He is a pilot. James is married… …and he has got two children. His daughter's name is Sally… …and his son's name is Tommy. Sally is ten… …and Tommy is eight. Jill is married. She has got one son. His name is Ben.
