BACKGROUNDDMRB Volume 7 HD36/06 “<strong>Surfacing</strong> M<strong>at</strong>erials for New and MaintenanceC<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong>” Paragraph 3.16 st<strong>at</strong>es th<strong>at</strong>,3.16 The same levels <strong>of</strong> PSV and AAV must be<strong>use</strong>d <strong>on</strong> different traffic lanes across <strong>the</strong>carriageway and in <strong>the</strong> hardshoulder except th<strong>at</strong>,where aggreg<strong>at</strong>es are <strong>use</strong>d for demarc<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>, amaximum difference <strong>of</strong> 5 PSV points may beallowed.A practiti<strong>on</strong>er has interpreted this Standard as requiring <strong>the</strong> <strong>use</strong> <strong>of</strong> HFS <strong>on</strong> both <strong>the</strong>approach lane(s) and exit lane(s) from a signalised pedestrian crossing <strong>on</strong> an urbansingle carriageway road. This goes against successful c<strong>on</strong>temporary urban practice.2.
