with Gin Lubuski, the Totino and Canari
cream liqueurs, as well as the classic
cherry liqueur Nalewka Babuni, are performing
very successfully. The reporting
year saw the launch of Canari Pina Colada,
which instantly recorded sound
growth. Exports likewise contributed to
the successful overall result. Vinpol now
exports to 15 countries – and the trend
is upward.
Bohemia Sekt,
Czech Republic
Celebrated in its home country, Bohemia
Sekt s.r.o. is Czech market leader in
sparkling wine and wine while also being
a successful producer and distributor of
spirits. With respectable sales increases
in the sparkling wine and wine business,
as well as double-digit volume growth
with spirits, the company can look back
on a thoroughly successful fi nancial
year. The basis of the success was Bohemia
Sekt and Praszká Vodka. Furthermore,
the company was proclaimed
“Winery of the Year”, the highest accolade
for wine companies in the Czech
Republic.
Hubert J. E., Slovakia
Founded as long ago as 1825, Hubert
J. E. is known in its home country especially
for Hubert, the leading sparkling
wine brand by far. In the sparkling wine
sector a non-alcoholic Hubert Club was
launched. Enjoying disproportionate
success was the premium sparkling
wine Hubert de Luxe. The wine business
also followed a sound course. With the
acquisition of the wine company Vitis
Pezinok in 2008, the subsidiary became
Slovakian wine market leader. Equally
pleasing was the Slovakian spirits year,
which was marked by the success of Karpatské
Brandy. With Karpatské Brandy
the company has one of the country’s
most celebrated spirits brands.
Angelli, Romania
The leading Romanian market leader in
sparkling wine, Angelli s.r.l. had to
contend with especially challenging underlying
conditions in its home market.
Despite continuing infl ation, high unemployment
and the poor consumer
sentiment bound up with it, the company
succeeded in marginally increasing
The Czech Republic’s Bohemia Sekt can look back on a thoroughly successful fi nancial year.
volume sales of sparkling wine, this being
borne by the successfully performing
sparkling wine Ador Frizzante. The spirits
segment, however, suffered disproportionately
as a result of an increase in
liquor tax from 2010 and the stockpiling
accompanying it. Exports of Angelli
aperitifs were very good, so that, although
down marginally overall, a creditable
volume sales result was achieved.
Kiewer Sektkellerei,
Ukraine
Despite all political and economic un-
certainties in Ukraine, the sparkling wine
market leader, Kiewer Sektkellerei, is on
the right track. With continuing successes
the company is defying the demanding
underlying conditions and was able
to grow yet again in the 2011 fi nancial
year. In the sparkling wine business the
sound volume sales performance is attributable
above all to the recently introduced
Nash Kiev sparkling wine, which
made up for the losses in sales of the
more expensive Sowjetskoye sparkling
wine. Promising developments were
seen in the new spirits sector, which is
composed of the company’s own spirits
and the cream liqueurs of the Polish sister
company Vinpol.
Budampex, Estonia
In addition to the producing companies,
the internationalization of the Group is
also being advanced with import and
distribution companies. The start was
made in 2009 by Budampex AS in Tallinn,
Estonia. Budampex has taken Törley,
Hungary’s sparkling wine market leader,
to the top in Estonia. The company also
distributes Henkell Trocken and other
Group brands.
Henkell & Co. Baltic, Latvia
Founded in January 2011 and based in
Riga, Henkell & Co. Baltic in Latvia augments
business operations in the Baltic
states, the aim being to expand business
there in close association with Budampex
AS in Estonia. The 2011 fi nancial year
was satisfactory overall thanks to the
positive performance of Törley sparkling
wine.
Henkell & Co. Sverige,
Sweden
Henkell & Co. Sverige, based in Stock-
holm, was established in early 2011. The
remit of the new company is to pool the
brands from the Group portfolio previously
distributed through different
Swedish importers. In the Swedish sparkling
wine market, the company provides
the market leader with Hungary’s
Chapel Hill sparkling wine; Törley occupies
second place.
Henkell & Co. Nederland,
Netherlands
Henkell & Co. Nederland, Den Haag,
completes the group of newly established
proprietary distribution companies.
Here, too, the brands formerly distributed
by a number of partners are
now marketed direct. At the focal point
of the Netherlands business are the
brands Mionetto, Francesco Yello Frizzante,
Henkell Trocken and the Deinhard
wines.
Outlook for 2012
On the basis of the sound business per-
formance and consistent internationalization,
the Henkell & Co. Group sees itself
well equipped to face future
challenges.
On the domestic market, to which
the Henkell & Co. Group is particularly
committed as its prime market, the
Group is focusing on its core brands
Fürst von Metternich, Henkell Trocken,
Mionetto, Kupferberg Gold and Söhnlein
Brillant and, in the spirits sector, on
Wodka Gorbatschow, Kuemmerling
Kräuterlikör, Scharlachberg Meisterbrand
and Pott-Rum. In an increasingly
competitive and aggressively priced
market, the brands are taking on the
challenge of constantly setting new directions
in quality, innovation, design
and marketing.
The internationalization of the Henkell
& Co. Group is being further pursued in
2012 with the establishment of Henkell
& Co. United Kingdom, based in Leeds,
and of Henkell & Co. Switzerland, registered
in Obergösgen.
Equally, exports remain a growing business
fi eld for the Henkell & Co. Group.
Overseas marketing has increasingly
been the focus of the group of companies
of late.
Going forward, the success of the Group
will be founded on a harmonious mix of
active brand cultivation, a constant readiness
to innovate, high quality standards
and continuous internationalization
within the defi ned business fi elds sparkling
wine, wine and spirits.
