Brune Park Community School - Welcome GuideThe House ChampionshipWhat does a mentor do?Every individual mentor will see yourchild every day for 20 minutes at10.30am and is responsible for thewelfare of your child.Every individual mentor will help yourchild settle into the school.Every individual mentor will monitorthe progress of your child at Brune Park.Every individual mentor will be the firstperson your child can approach if thereis a problem.Who will be in thementor group?Each mentor group will comprise up to27 students. There will be approximately5 students from each of the 5 YearGroups in every mentor group.Every mentor group is made up ofstudents from the same House.The mentor groups have been carefullyplanned to ensure a mixture of students.There will be plenty of opportunity tomeet new friends and talk about futureopportunities during mentor time.Mentor groups will work together toachieve common goals for their Houseand plan to win competitions.

This time last year we werein exactly the same position as you are.We were probably thinking the same thingtoo. All 24 of us from the Year 7 Council justwant to say it is really not as scary or as bigas it seems.When you first arrive, Brune Park seemslike a huge place but it will get smaller. Youwill do lots of new subjects like French orSpanish, Drama, Music, Dance and moretraditional subjects like English and Maths.There are lots of different clubs for youto go to after school, like swimming andbasketball. If you are not that sporty youcan go to one of our other clubs like chessor film club.You will find a bit of a change in homeworkwhen you get here. The teachers andmentors will help you. There is alsohomework support which runs from 2.30pmevery day in the ILS (Inclusion and LearningSupport) Centre. You will be given a plannerto record your homework in. There aregroups of students who form Councils.The role of these Student Councils is tovoice your opinion and to work togetherto make our school a better place. You canapply to be a member when you arrive, welook forward to seeing you soon. Enjoyyour summer!Daily SchedulePeriod 1 8.30am - 9.30amPeriod 2 9.30am - 10.30amMentor / Assembly 10.30am - 10.50amBreak 1 10.50am - 11.10amPeriod 3 11.10am - 12.10pmIn Year 11 some of the students who haveshown maturity and compassion, and haveproved that they are able to act responsiblyare asked to become Prefects. Being a Prefectis a position of responsibility and they carryout a range of duties to support you and theschool. Students must respect instructionsfrom Prefects and can also expect to betreated with respect by the Prefects. Anystudent who works hard, obeys the rules ofthe school and is prepared to give up theirtime to support Brune Park will be a Prefectin Year 11.The Peer Mentors are students from Years9, 10 and 11 who are fully trained to offersupport to students who need that littleextra bit of help, or who just want to talk.Should your child wish to speak with aPeer Mentor, they are available every breaktime and can be found in E1 in the MainBlock. Within the House System it is likelythat your child will have a Prefect and/or aPeer Mentor within their mentor group andthey should take the time to talk to thesestudents if they have concerns or questionsabout any aspect of school life.Period 4 12.10pm - 1.10pmBreak 2 1.10pm - 1.30pmPeriod 5 1.30pm - 2.30pm2.30pm onwards –Extra curricular activities and study clubs
