How QBE Settings Affect

How QBE Settings Affect FTSEnter a query by example (QBE) in any field indexed for FTS, according to thefollowing syntax:ntclientd, notifier, ntserverdHowever, be aware that the property settings influence how an accrue searchworks, as shown in Table 4-1.Table 4-1QBE Match PropertySettingAnywhereLeadingEqualHow QBE Property Settings Affect FTSEffect on Search Criteria%ntclientd, notifier, ntserverd%Remedy User adds wild cards to the start and end ofthe search.ntclientd, notifier, ntserverd%Remedy User adds a wild card to the end of the search.ntclientd, notifier, ntserverdRemedy User does not add any wild cards to the searchstring, but it uses the Equal (=) operator instead of theLIKE operator if the first character in the search stringis not a percent sign (%).Therefore, to use the accrue operator with a QBE Matchsetting of Equal, users can do one of the following:■ Add a leading wild card to the string, as follows:■%ntclientd, notifier, ntserverdUse the Advanced Search Bar to enter the accrueoperator.Note:When you index a field for FTS by using the Database tab of theField Properties dialog box, do not set the QBE Match propertyto Equal. For more information on QBE, see the Action RequestSystem Administrator’s Guide, Volume 1.4-12 Action Request System Administrator’s Guide, Volume 2

Limitations of FTSLimitations of FTSLimits to performing a full text search include the following:■■■■■In accrue searches, you cannot search for most punctuation because theyare treated as word separators. For more detail, see “FTS Issues WhenPerforming Searches” on page 4-11.In accrue searches, do not use words from the Ignore Words List. Forexample, if the word the is in the Ignore Words List, searching on thephrase the, database, remedy in the Short Description field mightreturn requests with the word the in them, but it is not used in thesearch itself. For additional information, see “Modifying the IgnoreWords List” on page 4-26.In searches that use FTS, submitted or modified requests might notappear immediately in the results list if you are searching on a fieldenabled for FTS. There is sometimes a short delay from the time therequest is submitted or modified in the database to the time that therequest is available for searching in the FTS index. On a server running in the English locale, words can contain only thefollowing characters, if they are to be indexed under FTS:_ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789$%#@.On a server running a locale of other Western European languages in theISO 8859-1 character set, words can contain only the followingcharacters, if they are to be indexed under FTS:ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzäöüßÄÖÜåÅæÆøØàÀáÁâÂèÈéÉëËêÊìÌíÍïÏîÎòÒóÓùÙúÚñÑûÛçÇôÔýÝðÐãÃõÕÞþ0123456789$%#@.Administering FTSThis section describes how to administer FTS in the AR System.Selecting Fields for FTS IndexingYou can only index character or diary fields for FTS.
