Starting the Mail HandlerStarting the Mail HandlerFor UNIX ServersWhen you have established a mail address for messages to be mailed to theAR System and set up a configuration file, if needed, you can run theAR System mail handler, armaild. The syntax for armaild is as follows:armaild [-d][-f ][-n ]The following command starts the mail handler by using a configuration filecalled mailopt. (You must have write access to the file.)armaild -f mailopt &You can add the command line that you use most often to start the mailhandler to your system startup script. If you do not specify a configuration file, the default (/etc/armaild.conf) is started. For more information about armaild command options, see “CommandOptions” on page 5-10.For Windows NT ServersThe mail handler is installed to run as a Windows NT service. The startupsettings for the armailex service must start the service as the Windows NTaccount designated for use during installation, not as the System Account. You also can use the following debug options with armailex:■ If you run armailex as a Windows NT service and use the -d debugoption, debug messages are logged in the\arserver\db\armaild.log and do not appear on thescreen.■If you do not want to run armailex as a Windows NT service, you can runit in manual mode by adding the -m option to the command line, as in thefollowing example:armailex -d -f c:\remedy\armaild.cfg -mIf you do not specify a configuration file, the default (//armaild.cfg) is started.Debug messages appear on the screen and not in the armaild.log file.Electronic Mail Support 5-9
