Changing a Server NameAbstractThis essay explains how to change the name of the server on which yourAR System is running. Forms and their related workflow are stored accordingto the name of their server, so it is vital that the server is renamed in allcomponents of the AR System for that server.OverviewThe server name is referenced by the workflow attached to forms, includingactive links and filters. If you change the name of the server, but do not changethe name within definitions in the AR System, your system will not functioncorrectly. Use the following procedures to change the name of your AR Systemserver.Note:The AR System is constrained by the underlying SQL databaseto support 256 columns per table. As such, AR System forms arelimited to approximately 256 fields. Before you begin to importforms, keep in mind that if you attempt to import a form thatexceeds the database’s fields per table limit, you might see SQLerrors from the database.➤Preparing to Rename the Server1. Open Remedy Administrator, and connect to the server that you arerenaming.2. Choose Tools → Export Definitions.The Export Definitions dialog box appears.3. Reconfigure your server as needed to change its name.2. Update the name in the server list on the server and on all clientmachines.■Use the Registry Editor to update\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Remedy\ARServer\CurrentVersion\ServerList.Warning:Edit only this location in the Windows NT Registry.➤■■■On Windows clients, update the server list through the Accountsdialog box.On UNIX servers update the /etc/ar file.On Macintosh clients, update the Servers file in the arHome folder.Restoring the AR System with a New Server Name1. Delete all the filters, active links, escalations, character menus, andrelevant distributed mappings on your system.Note:Do not delete your forms, because they do not contain referencesto servers. Your forms react as they did before you changed thename of the server.2. Choose Tools → Import Definitions.The Import File dialog box appears.3.
