Changing the Next Available ID for New RequestsChanging the Next Available ID for New RequestsAbstractThis essay explains how to change the next available ID when creating newAR System requests. This ID is used to automatically generate the uniqueindex number that is attached to each AR System request. Under someconditions, you might need to reset the next available ID. For example, youmight need to establish different ranges for a similar form on two differentservers, or you might need to leave a range of numbers unused for later use.Note:Do not change the next available ID to a number lower than thegreatest existing ID. The Request ID field value must be uniquewithin the AR System, and resetting the ID to a lower numbercould conflict with existing Request ID field values. If itencounters an existing ID, the AR System will return an errorand prevent new requests from being submitted until theconflict is resolved. If you must change the next available ID, plan to make the change when thesystem is not in use to avoid conflicts with users that are submitting newrequests. The Request ID FieldEvery form defined in the AR System contains a set of core fields. TheRequest ID field is the core field with a unique field ID of 1. You can changethe label of this field to something other than Request ID, but the field ID willalways remain 1.The Request ID field contains a character string that holds a unique index foreach request. The form of this string is an optional prefix, which can consist ofany alphanumeric characters, followed by a 0-padded numeral (for example,HD0000000000001). The field can be no less than 5 characters and no morethan 15 characters in length. The prefix can be as long as the total length ofthe field less 5 characters.Technical Essays 9-15
