emittance products for

emittance products for the Diaspora, and building general confidence in andcapacity of formal financial institutions.· In order to create a knowledge base for policies, data should be gathered onNigerians living abroad as well as the development contribution of migrationon the local and regional level. There is a striking, almost total lack of basicdata and research on Nigerian migration and its reciprocal connections withnational and regional development. Therefore, more research on the nature andrecent trends of Nigerian migration as well its development implications isurgently needed in order to elaborate policies that can enhance thedevelopment potentials of migration. Such research should increase insightinto the differentiated and interconnected roles of internal, intra-regional(ECOWAS), African and trans-continental migration in national development.25
