Days 1-2 Kathmandu Narrow lanes lead to smallsquares and courtyards in colourful Kathmandu. Explore crowdedbazaars where stalls and tiny hole-in-the-wall shops sell everythingfrom bangles to Buddhas. On day 2 start the day early by warmingup the legs with a hike to the ‘Monkey’ temple of Swayambhunath.Explore the Bodhnath stupa in the heart of the Tibetan community.Situated on a hill top, its instantly recognisable Buddha eyes attractsa steady stream of pilgrims. Stop by KEEP ( Kathmandu EnvironmentalEducation Project) to learn about environmentally responsibletrekking - we’ll be putting these practices to work over the next twoweeks. Enjoy the rest of your time in Kathmandu by exploring atyour own pace. Days 3-14 Island Peak Take a short flight to Lukla,the starting point for an amazing trekking experience. For the nexttwo weeks you’ll stay in a mixture of teahouses and campsites, gettinga taste of cultural Nepal and her spectacular wilderness. Startthe trek by criss-crossing the Dudh Kosi River before starting the firstof many uphills. If the weather is clear you’ll enjoy your first glimpsesof Everest in Namche. Keep on gradually ascending and leave thetree line behind as you trek higher and higher into the Himalayas.You’ll pass monasteries, remote villages and the odd yak or two.Add your stone to the others at mountain pass cairns and have yourcamera ready for those fantastic ‘mountain meets prayer flag’ photoopportunities. Reaching the Island Peak Base Camp your Sherpawill give you climbing practice sessions in preparation for the finalascent. Begin the attack on Island Peak in the very early hours of thenext morning. It’s a gruelling 10 hours from base camp and backbut, at a height of 6,183 m (20,285 ft), standing atop Island Peak isan exhilarating achievement. The mostly downhill return trek is almosta walk in the park after the challenges of the past few days, soenjoy the easier pace and take in those final Everest views. Day 15Lukla A final day’s trek is quite leisurely as you make your way backto Lukla, the final stop on this awesome mountain trek. Days 16-17Kathmandu An early morning start delivers another spectacularflight, this time to Nepal’s vibrant capital. Days3-17 Everest Trek From a gentle rise through rhododendron andmagnolia forests to an arduous climb to Base Camp, this Everesttrek will test your mettle and delight your senses. Traverse the gloriousGokyo region, rising along narrowly crafted staircases and steeppasses to see its five stunning mountain lakes, including gorgeousGokyo Lake. Get an insight into the Sherpa community as you passsmall villages and visit the so-called ‘Sherpa capital’, Khumu. On day14 start early to scale the heights of Kala Pathar in the early morningfor spectacular, up-close views of Everest. The return route to Luklafollows the Imja Valley and along high ridges. Days 19-21 Kathmandu Anothershort but spectacular flight will bring us back to Kathmandu. Thecity streets feel a million miles away from the mountain wildernessof the Himalayas. Explore the city some more - between temples,palaces and markets there is so much to see here. Visit the ‘Monkey’temple, spot living goddesses in Durbar Square and fill up yourbackpack with mementos of an amazing Nepalese adventure.
