Please come along, everyone is welcome.Earlier this year the School conducted an extensive review of the operations and procedureswithin the Recreation Centre and Swimming program. From this review the School hasundertaken to make a number of changes including a restructure of the Swim Program bycreating the new externally contracted position of Head Coach of Swimming. After consultation, our current Head Swim Coach, Mr Steve Critoph, has decided not to applyfor this newly structured position. As a result, Steve has resigned from his current position. Thisweekend advertisements have been placed in the major newspapers seeking expressions ofinterest for this position.I take this opportunity to thank Steve for his 11 years of service to the school as MIC ofSwimming and later as MIC of Rugby. Steve has undertaken a variety of extra roles during histime with us. These include oversight of a Tutor Group, extensive input and assistance withWater Polo, supporting our triathletes through offering swimming advice and a sustainedcommitment to the Rugby program. However it is in swimming that Steve has had his greatest success. This year, 25 of ourswimmers qualified for the NSW CIS swimming championships, the largest contingent of anyCoeducational school and ranked us in the top 5 of independent schools in the State in terms ofnumbers. Steve’s most noted achievements include coaching a number of swimmers to succeedat the highly competitive National level. This year, under Steve’s guidance, Emilie Miller and NedYeomans competed with distinction at the Australian Age Group Swimming Championships. There is no doubt that the KWS squad swimmers will miss Steve’s coaching and guidance.Steve will complete his tenure with the school at the end of this year. I take this opportunity onbehalf of the staff, students and parents to thank Steve for his 11 years of service to the schooland wish him all best for the future. As a consequence of the review of the Recreations Centre and Swimming program, a number ofchanges will take place from 2012 onwards.Firstly there will be considerable changes within the swimming pool area, including a restructureof the current staffing. There will be no Learn to Swim Program in 2012. There is also a changein the manner in which the swim pool area will operate, with entry gained from the Prep Carpark area, via an external door. There are other management and operational procedures whichI will inform you of as they come to hand.Following formal approval at School Council, I am writing to inform staff and parents withregard to a change in the MiC Role of major sports in 2012. This relates to the following sports:Cricket, Rowing, Football, Hockey, Netball and Rugby.Currently the MiC’s of these sports receive no additional time allowance to organise the largenumber of participants, coaches and wide ranging administrative responsibilities that come withthese positions. For 2012, the MiC’s of these major sports will only be required to do one season of sport percalendar year. This will allow staff in these roles to have a more strategic role in planning, organising and evaluating outcomes in their respective sporting areas.
