Studentsare supported in their quest for knowledge <strong>of</strong> their dlosen fields and encouragedto shape their artistic and social environments.MASTER'S DEGREEHome Economics and Family Ecology<strong>The</strong> program <strong>of</strong> study is <strong>of</strong>fered leading to the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Home Economicsand Family Ecology degree <strong>of</strong>fers options in dlild development; dlild life; clothing,textiles and interiors; family development; and food science. Students mustmeet the following admission requirements for acceptance in the program:o Minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.75 for four years <strong>of</strong> undergraduate study or 3.00 for the lasttwo years <strong>of</strong> undergraduate study.o Completion <strong>of</strong> general <strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination within the five years precedingapplication, with a minimum total score <strong>of</strong> 1200 on the three parts <strong>of</strong> theGRE.o Submission <strong>of</strong> a letter <strong>of</strong> personal career goals, sent to the director <strong>of</strong> graduatestudies.Two letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation may be submitted, if desired.<strong>The</strong> graduate faculty <strong>of</strong> the Sdlool <strong>of</strong> Home Economics and Family Ecology mayrequire an interview with any applicant.Accepted students will be expected to comply with the following requirements:o Complete the course <strong>of</strong> study in one <strong>of</strong> the five options, With a minrmum <strong>of</strong> 40credits.<strong>The</strong>se credits will rnclude- foundation courses to prepare for researdl in home economics and familyecology as an interdisciplinary field;- core courses in the area <strong>of</strong> specialty;- option electives and cognate electives, selected in consultation with academicadviser, from within Sdlool or in another discipline. <strong>The</strong>se are dlosen tostrengthen student's pr<strong>of</strong>essronal goals.o Pass a written comprehensive examination over major and minor areas after thecompletion <strong>of</strong> at least 24 credits <strong>of</strong> graduate work.o Complete a master's thesis or a master's project. 1he thesis option involves thedesign and evaluation <strong>of</strong> original researdl in an appropriately related area commensuratewith the student's background and area <strong>of</strong> pursuit. <strong>The</strong> projeCt optioninvolves the design, development, implementation, and evaluation <strong>of</strong> originaland creative programs and/or resource materials.
