The Scheme is being operated inaccordance with ISO/IEC Guide 62 –--- General requirementsfor bodies operating assessment and certification/registration of quality systems. Ever since its inception,there has been a tremendous progress of the scheme.During 2003-04, 291 quality systems certification licenceshave been granted, covering industrial sectors, such aschemicals, textiles, cement, electricals, pharmaceuticals,banking sector, automobile parts, printing,telecommunications, health sector, construction, education,testing laboratories, railway workshops, dairy plants,engineering products, defence accounts, etc. During theperiod, 186 branches/ offices of Canara Bank have beengranted quality systems licences as per IS/ISO 9001 : 2000.During the year, for the first time a Police Department, CityMunicipal Corporation and an organization like NationalCrime Records Bureau have been certified by BIS. 186quality systems certification licences were also renewedduring the period.Hazard Analysis and Critical Control PointThe total number ofoperative licences ason 31 March 2004rose to 1387 (seeFig. 4)Accreditation of BISQSCSBIS Quality SystemsCertification Schemehas been accreditedby Raad voorAccreditatie (RvA),Netherlands for 23major economicactivities. Thescheme is regularlyaudited by RvA toconfirm compliance tothe laid downrequirements.Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) is aprocess control system designed to identify and preventmicrobial and other hazards in food production. HACCPcan be applied throughout the food chain from primaryproducer to final consumer and the scheme is based onIS 15000 : 1998 ‘Food Hygiene - HACCP Systems andGuidelines’ which is technically equivalent to the CodexAlimentarious Standard ALINORM-97/13A. Under theHACCP Integrated Quality Systems Certification Scheme,53 certified companies were in operation. The processfollowed for certification is akin to the process of QualitySystems Certification Scheme. This scheme will help theexporters in the field of food and food products speciallyexport to the countries like USA & Europe.Annual Report 2003-2004 16
