Martin Baker explains

Martin Baker explains the process of updating your profile on the IOV websiteThe IOV website has recentlyundergone some majorbackground changes, with themain aim of making theprocess of finding qualifiedIOV members a little morelogical. This article will explain whyevery member (regardless oftheir IOV membership status)should re-visit their profile on thewebsite. It will also take youthrough the steps of updatingyour profile so you can start tobenefit from sharing a moredetailed description of yourinvolvement in the world ofvideography. Why it had to changePrior to the upgrade, the searchfacility used Post Code as areference - which was not thathelpful if you didn’t know thepost code - and completelyuseless for those members incountries where there are nopost codes to reference. This upgrade is not just ofbenefit to qualified members, asthe same profiles and searchcriteria are used in the ‘Find aMember’ facility found within theMembers Zone section of thewebsite - making it a moreaccurate and easy to usenetworking tool.In fact, the benefits extendbeyond the membership as thesame data is being entered byRegistered Users of the site -giving the IOV a much betteridea of the 5,500 users who havenow registered on www.iov.com.The new ‘Search User’ formprovides a more precise searchfacility - referencing informationentered by users within theirWebsite Options settings. Tofully benefit from this upgrade, all Members and RegisteredUsers should edit their websiteprofiles as soon as possible -especially those that are listed asbeing qualified.Find a VideographerMembers of the public can nowmore effectively search for aqualified IOV member in aspecific Country, Region within aCountry; and/or Locality within aRegion – across the three mainwork-types of Wedding,Corporate and Freelance.Clicking on the ‘Find aVideographer’ link will take themto a page where they can choosethe main work-type they arelooking for, which will then takethem on to a search form specificto that work-type (i.e. preselectedwith the correct‘Production Service’ filter). In the case of FreelanceServices, the searcher will needto select from the pre-populateddrop-down menu of ‘FreelanceServices’ – as currently shown inThe List in Focus.Every qualified member whohas already nominated theirwork-types (as requested whenassessment has been passed –and as shown in The List inFocus) will have had thisinformation loaded into theirwebsite profile. We have alsoentered every member’sCountry, Region and Localityaccording to their postal address.Every user can add, edit orremove Work-types or Countries,Regions and Localities by editingtheir own website profile – givingthem complete control of howthey are searched for and found. The result of this is that qualifiedmembers will be able to moreaccurately represent theirbusinesses to those looking for avideographer.Likewise, members of thepublic should be able to find avideographer more easily – withan aim that they should alwaysbe able to find a qualifiedmember willing and able toprovide the services they aresearching for. And with this inmind we would ask qualifiedmembers to be as honest aspossible when selecting areas ofspecialist skills, and exactlywhere they are prepared totravel to work (accepted thatmost will travel a good distancefor the right job).Find a MemberThe same search form is used inthe Find a Member facility foundwithin Members Zone. This willsearch all members, includingNon Qualified, Student,Honorary, etc. This will enhance members’ability to network, so it isimportant that all members edittheir profile so they can be foundmore easily. Those searching forother members can nominatewhich type of member they arelooking for – such as M.M.Inst.V.,F.Inst.V., Corporate or NonQualified – and in any Country,Region or Locality, etc.22 March 2006 Focus Magazine www.iov.com
