What is the SmartShift Beeper?The SmartShift Beeper model BPR-2 is a solid state audible device that emits a constant tone whenpowered. The beeper is used with the SmartShift unit to alert the driver that the SmartShift engine speed(RPM) threshold has been reached. BE SURE TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF BEFORE INSTALLATION!!Step 1 - Determine Mounting Location for BeeperThe beeper comes with 4 feet of wire with electro-tap connectors for the end of the wires. The beeperconnects to the existing SmartShift wire harness, so this length of wire will dictate the mounting locationpossibilities. If you need to mount the beeper at a location that is further than 4 feet from the SmartShiftwire harness, then you will need to extend the wires to the beeper.The actual mounting location should be chosen so that the beeper is hidden from view but in such a waythat minimizes the obstruction of the sound output. Behind an existing panel is a good choice. Under thedash board is a better choice.Use the supplied plastic wire ties, securely fasten the beeper to an existing anchor point.Step 2 - Connect Beeper WiresInstall the Electro-Tap connector at the end of the RED wire of the beeper to RED wire of theSmartShift. This is performed by folding the top cover half over the wire to meet the base. Squeeze onthe top cover and base with ordinary pliers until the latch locks. Use one of the small plastic wire ties tofasten the wire to the existing wire bundle. Trim the excess plastic with the wire cutters.Install the Electro-Tap connector at the end of the BLACK wire of the beeper to YELLOW wire of theSmartShift. This is performed by folding the top cover half over the wire to meet the base. Squeeze onthe top cover and base with ordinary pliers until the latch locks. Use one of the small plastic wire ties tofasten the wire to the existing wire bundle. Trim the excess plastic with the wire cutters.Step 3 - Do you need the diode?The diode is required when using BOTH the stock brake light for the shift light indicator AND thebeeper. If the diode is not installed for this configuration, then the beeper will sound when theemergency brake is engaged. Most people will find this undesirable. The diode conducts electricity inonly one direction and prevents the beeper from sounding when the emergency brake is engaged.If you are using a separate shift light with the beeper instead of the parking brake indicator light, then thediode is NOT needed.If you need the diode, proceed to Step 4. If you do not need the diode, proceed to Step 7.5


Step 4 - Determine Mounting Location for DiodeThe diode must be mounted inline with the YELLOW wire from the SmartShift. The location can beanywhere along the YELLOW wire but it MUST be AFTER the connection of the beeper BLACK wireand BEFORE the connection of the SmartShift YELLOW wire to the emergency brake switch wire.Step 5 - Cut the YELLOW SmartShift WireAt the location determined in Step 4, cut the SmartShift YELLOW wire.Step 6 - Install the DiodeInstall the diode inline with the YELLOW wire that was cut in Step 5 using the electro-tap connectorsthat were provided with the diode. Polarity is important! The diode CATHODE connects to the end ofthe YELLOW wire that goes to the SmartShift unit. The diode ANODE connects to the end of theYELLOW wire that goes to the emergency brake switch.Step 7 - Test the BeeperDrive the vehicle to verify that the beeper activates at the correct RPM. I suggest configuring theSmartShift output mode to "steady mode" for best effect (constant beep).6
