The Decemberists’ new album THE KING IS DEAD is a mostly-acoustic set of 10 concise, Americana-based songs, 

that marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the band’s wildly ambitious and acclaimed 2009 song-cycle THE 

HAZARDS OF LOVE. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, THE KING IS DEAD features special guest 

appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck. 

THE KING IS DEAD showcases the ways in which The Decemberists—Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, 

Nate Query, and John Moen—sound just as glorious in simple, stripped-down compositions as they do on the elaborate 

structures that have defi ned their work for years. The album was recorded in a converted barn at Pendarvis Farm, an 

80-acre estate of lush meadows, forest, and Mt. Hood views outside of Portland, and it was the concept of the barn—as 

recording space and as attitude—that informed the making of THE KING IS DEAD. 

TOURING: 

• The band will be embarking on a national tour beginning a week 

after street date in NY. Expect subsequent national tours and 

festival appearances in the Spring and Summer.

Formed in 2004 by “Creed” members Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips and former Mayfield Four singer Myles Kennedy, Alter Bridge is a hard rock 

band that continues to gain in popularity in a time when record and ticket sales are down. Having spawned 5 Top Ten hits in the US and numerous Top Ten Hits 

Internationally, Alter Bridge is now becoming one of the most respectable hard rock touring acts in the World. Three of the members’other band “Creed” was one of 

the most successful rock groups ever, having sold over 30 million records, winning a Grammy Award and selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide. 

"Alter Bridge- Live From Amsterdam" was shot over the band's triumphant sold-out European Tour in late 2008, with the main show being shot at the famous 

Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam in front of over 8,000 screaming fans. This is the band's first live CD and DVD and was shot in High Definition with 18 cameras,

“I didn’t approach this as a tribute record,” states Joe Lovano, dispelling right off 

the bat any preconception that his new album Bird Songs—an exploration of the 

Charlie Parker songbook—is a mere retread. Lovano’s 22nd album for Blue Note 

Records (the release of which will mark his 20th year on the label) breaks the 

mold of Bird tribute records. Bird Songs is a thrillingly adventurous, thoroughly 

modern, and uniquely personal look at one of the most influential figures in jazz 

history by one of the most important voices in the music today. 

Us Five turned out to be the perfect vehicle for his exploration. Lovano’s dynamic 

young band—which features drummers Otis Brown III and Francisco Mela, 

bassist Esperanza Spalding, and pianist James Weidman—has been captivating 

audiences around the world for several years now. Their debut recording—2009’s 

Folk Art—was a wide-ranging set of Lovano’s original compositions that resulted 

in Us Five being awarded Best Small Ensemble of the Year at the 2010 JJA Jazz 

Awards and winning the Best Jazz Group of the Year category in the 2010 

DownBeat Critics Poll. Lovano completed a double-triple of awards by also 

winning the JJA’s Musician and Tenor Saxophonist of the Year, and DownBeat’s

“Putting this recording together I kept wondering how Bird would have developed 

within these tunes, not just as the incredible soloist that he was but as an 

arranger and band leader. From what we know about him it is clear that he was 

into the world of music beyond so called Jazz and Be Bop and I’m sure we would 

have all been surprised at every turn in his approach just as we were with Miles, 

Coltrane, Rollins and Coleman, four of his most distinguished and celebrated 

disciples. At the young age of 34 Charlie Parker passed and left us with all of 

these questions about what would be. This recording is my humble attempt to 

answer some of those questions in my own way.”

Trent Live - Burn Bright celebrates Trent doing what they do best - leading worship in a live setting from their home church,

Vivaldi: Ercole 

Italian Baroque specialist, Fabio Biondi conducts a fantastic cast 

in Vivaldi’s opera Ercole sul’Termodonte, first heard in Rome in 

1723! Biondi himself brought the score back to life, reconstructing 

it for performance in Venice in 2007, and subsequently in Paris in 

2009. Because no autograph score or contemporary copy of the 

opera was in existence, Biondi worked from the libretto printed for 

the first performances in Rome in 1723. He was then able to 

identify various arias from other Vivaldi scores kept in libraries 

around Europe, principally in France and Germany. In many 

cases, he also orchestrated the arias, extrapolating from their 

musical substance and his intimate knowledge of Vivaldi’s 

practice. Where no source existed for an aria or chorus, he 

reconstructed the music by adapting and borrowing from other 

works by Vivaldi. He also composed all the recitatives.

• CD-1 is primarily a collection of arias and duets by Verdi. It begins 

with the stirring ‘Celeste Aida’ from Aida, which is followed by 

favorite songs from Un ballo in maschera, La forza del destino, 

Don Carlo, Macbeth, Ernani, and Otello. Also included on this disk is 

a light-hearted performance of the Brindisi from La traviata in which 

Domingo invites the audience to join in. The CD concludes with 

two pieces from Puccini’s La Bohème and La fanciulla del West. CD-2

as well as arias from Boito’s Mefistofele and Mascagni’s Nerone, plus the

Prolific rock gods Zeus will continue to tap their ever-running fountain of musical creativity this fall with the release of the first in 

an open-ended run of 7-inch double A-side singes entitled Hot Under The Collar / Aeroplane January 11 through Arts & Crafts. 

“Aeroplane” was recorded in late 2009 at the band’s own Ill Eagle Studio and mixed by Robbie Lackritz (Feist) during a four-song 

recording session for the band’s noteworthy 2010 debut Say Us. 

“Hot Under The Collar” marks the first Zeus recording taken to another space. In order to achieve just that, more space, the bed was 

recorded over three takes in the large dwelling room of Toronto buddy band The Golden Dogs 

and then also mixed by Lackritz. 

An idea born from 1960s rock traditions and the heroes that inspire its infectious style, 

Zeus’s constant writing and recording presents the perfect means for continually satiating the 

band’s ravenous fan base.
