Golf NewsIn the BunkerOn June 29th, as you all will remember, wehad a massive wind storm that tore through ourarea. In the wake of the storm, we had two majorissues to deal with. The first was the fact that wehad no electricity for three days, with daytimetemperatures in the 100s. Having no electricitymeans no irrigation for the golf course. Trying tokeep the greens, fairways, and tees alive in thoseconditions was a challenge, to say the least. To accomplish this task,we had AEP here all hours of the day and night to get our electricworking as soon as possible. We brought a fire truck out and also usedour own sprayers to syringe the greens. The second issue was the hugemess that was left behind. The storm toppled several trees, as well asleft debris and large limbs everywhere on the golf course. It took us alittle over two weeks to clean up the unbelievable amounts of treesand limbs. All of this had to be done in almost unbearable heat, withour regular crew, while keeping the course playable. A big thank youto my crew for all their hard work, to AEP for their dedication, to theWurtland Fire Department for the use of the fire truck, and to all ofour members for their patience and support through this difficulttime.David Chasteen, Course SuperintendentEnjoy Golf Reciprocity PrivilegesBCC Member ofPRIVATE CLUB NETWORKDid you know that BCC is a member of the PrivateClub Golf Network, the largest independent privateclub-to-club reciprocal network in the U.S. andCanada with 175 member clubs? On the First TeeCongratulations to Charlie Duncil, MarkHanni, Mike Skeens and Gary Jones for winningthis year’s Red, White, and Blue Tournament. This team put together an impressive 40-underpar to win by three shots. We had 70 players andthank all who participated in the event.I would like to remind everyone about a coupleof Club rules: (1) All members and guests musthave their shirts tucked in when playing golf or using the practicefacilities. (2) I encourage everyone to park their golf cart on the cartpath when around the tees and greens. There is no need to park thegolf cart in the rough beside the green. We would like to keep thisarea as nice as possible, and it is hard to maintain when golf carts areconstantly being parked in the rough beside the green.UPCOMING GOLF EVENTSSenior Club Championship:When: August 9-11Thursday and Friday Tee Times will start at11:00 a.m.Saturday Tee Times will start at 8:00 a.m.Cost: $5 per playerEnd of Season Best Ball:When: August 25, 9:00 a.m. ShotgunFormat: One best ball net of foursomeCost: $5 per playerJeff Bostic, Head Golf ProfessionalAs a result, BCC golf members can play golf at any participatingclub for a standardized fee of $25-$50 per player.Golfers can enjoy some of the game’s greatest golf destinationsincluding North Carolina,Orlando, Savannah, San Diego,Phoenix and Boca Raton. To reserve your tee time orlearn more, call1-800-547-0838 or visitwww.privateclubnetwork.comOutstanding use ofHealth TechnologyOLBH has been recognized byHospitals & Health Networks, apublication of theAmerican HospitalAssociation, as oneof the 2012 MostWired Hospitals.Only three hospitals in Kentuckymet the criteria for recognition.Kari Shields,M.D. andDerek Jones,D.O.www.olbh.comL9HGA - Shamble - 7/11/121st Place Mendy Stevens 22Janice ChristianBecky Gehringer2nd Place Sandi Arnold 24Heather VanderenSusan KanouseL9HGA - Guest Day Scramble - 7/18/121st Place Heather Vanderen 36Lauren SchweickartBeth AndersonJoyce Neill2nd Place Beverly Shaffer 36Peggy LittleKim ZambosShorty BaileyL9HGA - Low Net in Flights - 7/25/121st Flight Debbie Lewis 32Beverly Shaffer 332nd Flight Martha McGuire 33Sue Chaffin 373rd Flight Joyce Neill 36Kim Zambos 37L18HGA - Low Net - 7/03/121st Place Beverly Shaffer 692nd Place Karen Radjunas 723rd Place Mendy Stevens 73L18HGA Pink & Blue - 7/10/121st Place Laverene Cox 64Blue Team Robin Webb 66Martha McGuire 69Beverly Shaffer 70Sue Chaffin 74Sandi Arnold 74Brenda Bunn 87L18HGA - Shamble - 7/17/121st Place Linda Blair 47Beverly ShafferSue Chaffin2nd Place Debbie Lewis 48Martha McGuireMargaret StrothMGA Red, White, Blue - 7/7/121st Place Charlie Duncil 170Mark HanniMike SkeensGary Jones *2nd Place Al Gehringer* 173Ron RayGeorge AitkenRay Davis3rd Place Brent Clark 178Mike PhillipsAndy PridayGary JonesMGA Individual Net in Flights 7/14 & 151st Flight Travis Timberlake 62Jeff Lopez 642nd Flight Tom Tatro 63Carter Gussler 64TN Marshall 64Steve Towler 643rd Flight Mike Phillips 62Dave Hatten 664th Flight Bruce Leslie 63Sammie Cox 655th Flight Bob Cruickshank 63Bill Jessie 65Ed Young 65Oren Justice 65Dave Taylor 65
