<strong>MATH</strong> <strong>1060</strong> <strong>SYLLABUS</strong> – TRIGONOMETRY – SUMMER 2008COURSE: M<strong>at</strong>h <strong>1060</strong>-070 is a 2 hour m<strong>at</strong>h class <strong>of</strong>fered through AOCE. You can expect tospend <strong>at</strong> least two hours on homework per one hour <strong>of</strong> class time. M<strong>at</strong>h <strong>1060</strong>-070 meetsMonday and Wednesday evenings from 6 – 8 pm <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sandy Campus. Exams will be givenfollowing class.PREREQUISITE: Completed M<strong>at</strong>h 1010 or equivalent with a C or better, or have a currentM<strong>at</strong>h ACT score <strong>of</strong> 23 or higher. It also gives an introduction to vectors.COURSE OBJECTIVES: Students will pass <strong>the</strong> chapter tests as well as <strong>the</strong> final, <strong>the</strong>rebydemonstr<strong>at</strong>ing a basic understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> trigonometric functions, <strong>the</strong>ir graphs, inverses,identities, vectors, solving equ<strong>at</strong>ions, applic<strong>at</strong>ions, complex numbers and polar graphs.CONTENT OVERVIEW: This course will cover <strong>the</strong> trigonometric functions in a unit circleand a right triangle, <strong>the</strong>ir graphs and inverses along with applic<strong>at</strong>ions. Identities, solvingequ<strong>at</strong>ions, as well as special formulas will be included. The Law <strong>of</strong> Sines and Cosines, anintroduction to vectors, and <strong>the</strong> trigonometric form <strong>of</strong> a complex number will be taught. Thecourse concludes with polar equ<strong>at</strong>ions and <strong>the</strong>ir graphs.TEACHING and LEARNING METHODS: Lecture and daily homeworkHOMEWORK: Homework will not be collected. It is highly recommended th<strong>at</strong> you work <strong>the</strong>problems assigned <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> each section. If you are having trouble with a particular type <strong>of</strong>problem, more practice may prove helpful by reworking <strong>the</strong> problems.
