Mapeplast SFSilica fume-basedadditive withpozzolanic actionDESCRIPTIONMapeplast SF is a powdered additive with pozzolanicaction to be used in combination with plasticisers orsuper-plasticisers for high quality mortar, grout andconcrete with thixotropic, plastic, fluid or super-fluidconsistency.WHERE TO USEMapeplast SF can be used for the followingapplications:• High quality thixotropic mortar that is resistant underthe most severe environmental aggressions (for newstructures and the restoration of deterioratedstructures).• Special concrete and grout to be applied with a pump.• Mortar and grout to be applied with a spray gun. Some application examples• Repair of deteriorated concrete structures attacked bysulphates and chlorides (dry docks, highwayviaducts).• Tunnel linings executed using sprayed mortar or grout.Because of their excellent thixotropic and adhesiveproperties, sprayed mortar or grout prepared withMapeplast SF often does not require the addition ofsetting accelerators that can weaken the quality of thefinal product, as is well known.• Underwater concrete with extremely high cohesionand resistant to washout.• Repair of canals and hydraulic projects in general.Mortar and concrete prepared with Mapeplast SF canresist leaching because the silica fume reacts with thefree lime produced by the hydration of the cement.TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICSMapeplast SF is a dark grey-coloured powdercomposed of amorphous silica in the form of sphericalsub-micron sized granules. The extremely small size of the graded particles (manyof them smaller than 0.1 mm) enables the sphericalgranules of Mapeplast SF to lodge in the intersticesbetween the larger sized cement granules (0.1 to100 mm).As a result the cement matrix is denser and morecompact.Using a combination of Mapeplast SF and the varioussuper-plasticisers of the Mapefluid product line, concrete can be obtained with a range of rheologicalproperties that is waterproof in the fresh state anddurable after hardening.HOW TO USEPour Mapeplast SF into the cement mixer together withthe other ingredients of the concrete (cement, aggregate, and water) in an amount varying from20 to 60 kg/m 3 , depending on the type of materialdesired. To obtain maximum product performance,Mapeplast SF should be combined with a superplasticiseror plasticiser because the small size of theparticles require a greater amount of water.[sche4] 780 Inglese - 1 (MAPEPLAST SF) (19.04.2001 - 5ª Bozza Corr. It is also important to disperse the granules ofMapeplast SF as well as possible. For thisreason, mixing for at least 5 minutes isrecommended.RECOMMENDATIONS• Do not use Mapeplast SF for mortar andconcrete that is not thoroughly mixed: atleast 2 minutes in vertical mixers and atleast 5 minutes in job-site mixers and mixertrucks.• In order to disperse the micro-silicagranules, Mapeplast SF can be poured inthe water for the mix, especially for classS 1 and S 2 consistency concrete.Reminder: for waterproof concrete, thewater/cement ratio should be no higherthan 0.55.Compatibility with other productsMapeplast SF has no plasticising action andmust therefore be used in combination withplasticisers and super-plasticisers of theMapefluid, Mapemix and Mapeplastproduct lines.Mapeplast SF is also compatible with:• Mapeplast PT1 air-entrainer for concreteresistant to freeze/thaw cycles;• Expancrete expanding agent for shrinkagecompensatedconcrete;• Form Release Agent DMA 1000,DMA 2000 and DMA 3000 for formworkconcrete;• Mapecure E curing compound forprotection against rapid evaporation of themix water in concrete without formwork(floors).DOSAGEMapeplast SF should be used in a dosageof from 20 to 60 kg per m 3 of concretedepending on the characteristics required.PACKAGINGMapeplast SF is available in 20 kg bags. Also available in 10 kg water soluble bags.Available in large bags or in bulk on request.STORAGEProtect from extremes of temperature andespecially from moisture.WARNINGN.B.
