2014 Model InformationMODEL NAME: Mule 4010 4x4MODEL CODE: KAF620MEFThe 4000 SeriesTough, powerful partners since their inception in 1988, Kawasaki MULE utility vehicles offer the highdependability, superb off-road performance, incredible flexibility and rugged good looks to make them thepartner of choice for farm owners, industrial sites, and many other applications. No nonsense, big-truck styling reflects the tough, powerful nature of MULE utility vehicles and their ability toget the job done. The gasoline powered MULE 4010 features fuel injection. Consistent, stable power all thetime (regardless of operating conditions), and easy starting is the result.First featured on the 2008 diesel MULEs, electric power steering is now featured on all 4000 series 4WDmodels. The speed-sensitive system offers natural handling at all times.

EngineH The proven 617cc, 4-stroke, 90 degree V-twin, OHV, liquid-cooled petrol engine features fuel injection. The fuel injection means stable power all the time, smooth response, improved power feeling, easy startingand no need to adjust engine settings to suit climate and varying altitude conditions.H Fuel pump located in the fuel tank features a built-in fuel pressure regulator. (This system is similar tothat used on motorcycles and on Kawasaki’s fuelinjectedATVs.)H To ensure smooth engine response, the enginefeatures dual throttle valves. The throttle body containsa ø34 mm upstream (sub) throttle valve and a ø30 mmdownstream (main) throttle valve. The sub-throttle valve is operated by the driver via theaccelerator pedal; the main valve is operated by a stepmotoractuator which is controlled by the ECU. The ECUuses throttle position input from the sub-valve todetermine the ideal throttle position for the main valve, ensuring smooth inlet airflow.H To keep the fuel injection system simple and reliable, rather than use an atmospheric pressure sensor, theECU calculates atmospheric pressure using the pulseair pressure measured by the inlet pressure sensor. The ECU compensates for air and engine temperature and atmospheric pressure, ensuring sure and promptengine starts in a variety of conditions (including cold, high altitude, etc).H Auto fast idle when the engine is cold means being able to move out right after a cold-engine start.H The ECU also limits the vehicle’s maximum speed. In Hi-gear, the throttle is slowly closed as maxvehicle speed is approached. In Low-gear, the throttle is closed partially before fuel is cut at the enginespeed where the max vehicle speed would be exceeded.Kawasaki Diagnostic System (KDS) can be used to diagnose the fuel injection system.H Compact and lightweight, durable and powerful, the engine is mounted in a rubber-isolated sub-frame toensure low vibration levels.H Overhead valves designed for efficient running and good fuel economy are durable and operate quietly.Crankcase breathers fitted to route blow-by back to the intake pipe for cleaner exhaust emissions.H A cyclone-airflow-type air cleaner draws air from one of two snorkel intakes in the tubing of the overheadframe to provide the engine with a steady supply of clean air, even in dusty operating conditions. The second intake supplies cooling air to the CVT.H Belt-driven automatic transmission with a Hi-Lo dual-range transfer case and selectable 4WD withmanually operated differential lock for high versatility.Lightweight CVT system features a cover with a trim seal for water and mud resistance.A belt-deflection adjuster reduces maintenance and a double-cogged belt reduces flex and wear.CVT air cleaner with easily replaceable filter element reduces CVT wear by cooling it with filtered air takenin through the overhead frame.ChassisH Ladder-type tubular steel frame features reinforced gussetting and shock mounting brackets for high loadcapacity and great durability.H Ackerman rack-and-pinion steering provides precise, easy handling, and a tight turning radius whilereducing tyre wear.H Limited-slip front differential allows great traction with low steering effort.H Dual-mode rear differential provides maximum traction when in locked mode and minimises grounddisturbance when unlocked.H Cargo bed features a two-lever tailgate release system for easy opening and closing.H Large plastic fuel tank gives the fuel-efficient 4000 Series Mules a great operating range.H Factory fitted front bull bars are now standard.

Electronic Power SteeringHThe electric power steering (EPS) system works best when you need it most: at extremely slowspeeds and when stopped. Turning the wheel causes a signal to be sent to the EPS ECU(Electronic Control Unit), initiating assistance. The ECU uses input from a vehicle speed sensor and torquesensor to determine the amount of steering assistance required from the system’s electric motor. At slow speeds or when stopped, assistance is greatest; assistance is reduced as vehicle speed increasesto ensure stable handling.H The EPS system also enhances ride comfort and control by acting as a damping system. The inertia of the electric motor significantly reduces bump steer and kickback to the steering wheel causedby shocks to the wheels.H Since the system is electric, it works immediately, without the time lag sometimes associated withhydraulic systems that, when the engine is first started, require time to pump engine oil to the power steeringsystem.H Additionally, since the system is independent from the engine, it will function with the engine off(as long as the key is in the “ON” position). (Please note that continuous use of the EPS system with theengine off will drain the battery.)H Because the EPS system does not rely on oil pumped from the engine, there is no engine powerloss — all engine power can be sent to the wheels. Fuel efficiency is also uncompromised.
