<strong>Mayor</strong> <strong>Beboy</strong> from p.1projects are concerned, he finishedthe project ahead <strong>of</strong> schedule whilemaintaining the same good quality.The said road concreting is almost500 meters long; it is a two-lanebarangay road with a width <strong>of</strong> 4.5meters and reinforced with crossdrainage plus a shoulder protection.Residents here particularly inPurok 3, 4 and 5 and the passengers/drivers <strong>of</strong> single motorcycle (habalhabal)and even merchants wereglad at the project which connectsLicuma and Mas-in and eases theirdifficulty in their trips.During the ceremonies,Barangay Captain Araneta revealedthat they did not expect theconcrete road to be that long. Hesaid this was the very first timethat his barangay received sucha long concrete road, and in onesetting at that. “Ato gyud nakitaang atong karsada kag-usa gyudnga ingon niini ka taas, wa gyud komagdahum nga muabot ni kay pilagud ka barangay ang <strong>Ormoc</strong> peronaabtan gyud ta” he said.On behalf <strong>of</strong> the council andthe people <strong>of</strong> Brgy. Licuma, Hon.Araneta expressed thanks to <strong>Mayor</strong>Eric Codilla and the members <strong>of</strong>the Sanguniang Panlungsod. Hejokingly said that if Manila has aBay Walk and <strong>Ormoc</strong> <strong>City</strong> for aRiver Walk then his barangay nowhas a Rice Farm Walk. Even thosefarmers or children who don’t haveslippers can now easily walk to theroad “...kay hanoy na kaayo ughamis na dina sad magduhaduhapagbaktas labi na ug gabii ugwalay sinilas”.For his part <strong>Mayor</strong> Codillasaid that he will try his best to pourinfrastructure projects especiallyto areas where it is badly neededlike in Licuma and Mas-in so thatfarmers can easily deliver theirproducts to the market throughgood roads. This is one pro<strong>of</strong>,said the <strong>Mayor</strong>, that the people’smoney is well managed and goesto vital projects.He used the ceremonies toexplain the city government’simproved tax collection efforts,with efficiency being the keytask. This was one reason whythe city was awarded for its “goodhousekeeping”and received atotal prize <strong>of</strong> P47M. The <strong>Mayor</strong>further explained that the prize wasdivided to finance projects <strong>of</strong> ninebarangays at five million each, one<strong>of</strong> which is Brgy. Mabini which is under theleadership <strong>of</strong> Captain Yolando“Loloy” Tomada.The city visitation team was ledas always by no less than <strong>Mayor</strong> EricCodilla. Former <strong>City</strong> <strong>Mayor</strong> and4th District Congressman DodongCodilla also joined the guests. TheKagawad in Charge for Mabini isAtty. Demosthenes Tugonon, wholed the preparation <strong>of</strong> the visit andin the program. Members <strong>of</strong> the12th Sanggunian were also present,like Lea Villar, Dudy Larrazabal,Payling Omega, Menoy Maglasangand Bingo Capahi.In his welcome address,Barangay Captain Loloy Tomadasingled out the city <strong>of</strong>ficials’sincerity in helping his barangay.“Salamat kay inyong gituman angsaad sa pagbisita dinhi namo”.Councilor Tugonon’s openingmessage complemented CaptainTomada’s, as he emphasized thatthe present administration -- from<strong>Mayor</strong> <strong>Beboy</strong> Codilla and Vice<strong>Mayor</strong> Nepnep Aparis down to thecity councilors -- are sincere in theirpromise to give genuine service tothe people. “Dili pa election, dililang mubalik kun ting election na;kung dili nia kami kay aron susihonkun unsa pay mabuhat sa gobyernoalang sa katawhan”.Lady legislator Lea Villar toldthe audience that all sectors in thecommunity will be given attentionby the LGU. Citing her work onthe Committee on Social Services,Councilor Villar poined out thatthe city government providesservices to both genders, be theychildren, adults or seniors. Shealso detailed the many activities <strong>of</strong>her committee.Councilor Bingo Capahistressed that the barangay visitwas not a social call but a workingvisit aimed at bringing governmentcloser to the people. In his message,he pointed out that their being inBrgy. Mabini that afternoon provedthat they do their tasks as elected<strong>of</strong>ficials. “...wala mi nagpasinawlang sa lingkoranan sa amo mgaopisina,” said the young councilor.He also urged the residents tomake full use <strong>of</strong> the presence <strong>of</strong>the city <strong>of</strong>ficials.4Ang<strong>Ormoc</strong>anonwww.ormoc.gov.phCouncilor Dudy Larrazabal,who is on his last term, also saidhis piece, focusing on his work onthe infrastucture committee on theSanggunian.On the other hand, Hon.Menoy Maglasang reported onhis education committee “Angpagtambong nagpakita sa kaikagpagpamati sa mga programa ugplano sa panggoberno sa syudad”.Councilor Maglasang also detailedthe many education-related projects<strong>of</strong> the city, including its construction<strong>of</strong> more than 200 classrooms, morethan 70 perimeter fencing andthe continued distribution <strong>of</strong> freeschool supplies for young studentsall over the city.Dr. Payling Omega gave a reporton programs <strong>of</strong> his Committee onHealth. He gave updates on theprogress <strong>of</strong> the construction <strong>of</strong> the<strong>City</strong> Hospital and emphasized thatthe Codilla administration willcontinue its thrust <strong>of</strong> deliveringhealth services directly to the needy<strong>of</strong> <strong>Ormoc</strong>. Councilor Omegapoined out that the program <strong>of</strong>decentralizing health care -- inthe form <strong>of</strong> constructing healthcenters in strategic locations allaround the city -- has securedthe city against the spread <strong>of</strong>contagious illnesses. He vowedto continue his all-out efforts findways to help all <strong>Ormoc</strong>anons.The bulk <strong>of</strong> the barangayvisit was focused on solving theconcerns <strong>of</strong> the barangay <strong>of</strong>ficials.While each barangay councilorbrought up the concerns <strong>of</strong> theirown committee, they were one inthanking the Codilla administrationfor its support, past and present.“Dili gyud ko makalimot sagipangayu nako sa una hilabi na angsa daycare namo, dili ikalalis naanakita ug nahuman na. Ruben Tomada.Another barangay <strong>of</strong>ficialwho publicly thanked the city<strong>of</strong>ficials was Hon. Jigo Tomada,who said “... wa ta pabay-e sa atocity <strong>of</strong>ficials labi na sa ato mayor,tagdon kita dayun kun unsa manang ato mga problema”. TheBarangay Captain confirmed hiscouncilors’ testimonies but askedthat they also be given a coveredcourt. “Nagpasalamat mi niiningtanan ug murag waman unta mimailiw sa mga projekto, peromangayu mig unsay naa sa ubannga wala namo-ang covered courtangamong gikaibgan”.In his response, <strong>Mayor</strong><strong>Beboy</strong> also expressed his utmostgratitude to the local barangayleadership for acknowledging theefforts <strong>of</strong> his administration. Hesaid that through the differentprograms and projects beingimplemented in Brgy. Isipamahan sa dakbayan anak monako tanan, walay pili.”He added that in visitations likethis it is easier to get the pulse <strong>of</strong> thepeople because when the barangayfolks go to the city hall perhaps theywill be attended to only for a limitedtime. This, he said, is in contrast to thebarangay visit where the city <strong>of</strong>ficialsinteract with barangay residentsexclusively for the whole afternoon.
