WASTE WATER SolutionsHUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSWAutomatically cleaned combined screen for stormwater tankswith overflow and stormwater discharge channels– 4 mm bar spacing for high solids retention– automatically controlled screen surface cleaning– Exceptional high performance at a low pressure loss– Innovative screening chamber with flushing gates– Sturdy, low-maintenance screen

➤ The situationWith heavy rainfall quite often significant amounts offloating and suspended matter reach the receiving watercourse, natural retention areas and stormwater tanks inthe case of combined sewer systems via discharge orseparating structures. The items that pollute thereceiving waters, such as sanitary products, toilet paper, faeces, cans, etc., are not only unsightly but alsoresponsible for extensive cleaning and/or disposal costs. The European standards EN DIN 752 part 4, efforts tofundamentally improve the protection of waters in thesector have been increased. Particularly endangeredreceiving water courses and nature preservation areaswill in future require even more extensive measuresconcerning the treatment of combined water.Soil filter without coarse material retention in theinflow area➤ The solutionThe HUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSW removesvirtually all such critical material from the combinedsewage overflow. Since screening takes place on the sill ofthe structures, the HSW Screen can even be installed insewer systems with a minor bottom slope. The 4 mm barspacing screen belongs to the group of fine screens andcan be used extensively for any flow rate.➤ The functionThe HUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSW is installeddirectly on the sill of the structure. In the event of overflowdischarge the flow streams horizontally through thescreen. In order to prevent complete blinding of the barrack in the event of overflow discharge, the bar rack ispermanently mechanically cleaned whenever the definedretention water level elevation is exceeded. The screen isdriven by a submersible IP 68 motor. Whilst the screenbars are cleaned gently to protect the screenings, thelinear chain drive ensures a defined symmetric transmissionforce into the screen construction. This providesthe technical basis for stable and reliable operation andmaximum availability of the screen. For increased operating stability the HUBER Storm WaterBar Screen HSW has a screening chamber on the dischargeside. This screening chamber both defines thestart of an overflow discharge cycle and equalizes theflow velocity in the screen surface area.Front view of a HUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSWinstalled in a storm water overflow tankScreenings retained on the approaching flow side ofthe HUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSW

WASTE WATER Solutions➤ The installation conditionsThe HUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSW is installeddirectly on the sill of the structure. While the flow streamsthrough the screen, the screenings are retained by thescreen bars. Optimised cleaning tines push the screeningsto the end of the screen from where they are removedalong with the wastewater flow to the sewagetreatment plant. The screening chamber on the dischargeside keeps the average flow velocity in the screen areavirtually constant under all operating conditions. Thescreening chamber height, which defines the start of anoverflow discharge cycle, is individually adjusted to suitthe specific hydraulic requirements and ensures thusmaximum utilisation of the screen surface at a lowsurface loading is achieved.➤ The user's benefitsThe installation of the HSW screen on the overflow sillresults in various benefits for the planner and operator:➤ Well-proven 4 mm bar spacing for high solids retention➤ Automatically controlled, gentle screen surfacecleaning➤ Powerful direct screen drive with a submersible IP 68motor➤ Exceptional high performance at a low pressure loss➤ Increased operating stability due to the screeningchamber on the discharge side➤ Availability of completely submerging the screen➤ The applicationsThe HSW Screen is suitable for a variety of advancedstormwater and combined water treatment appliations.Screenings are not removed from the structure. Instead, the screenings remain within the sewer and are introducedinto the wastewater treatment plant after thestorm event.HUBER Storm Water Bar Screen HSW with subsequent screening chamber viewed from the discharge side
