General Rules 

• Upon arrival, guests should check in at the greeting table to receive name badges, confirm bid number, obtain table 

assignment, and make arrangement for express payment. 

• Express payment will speed your check out time! Leave a signed check or credit card imprint at the check-in desk and 

you are ready to go. 

• Bidders are responsible for their own bid number. 

• Group Bidding: If several bidders want to bid for a single item, they may choose to divide the cost amongst 

themselves by using the “Group Bid Form” (see page 83). The computer will divide the payment between the 

group members. 

• Payment for all items must be made on February 21, 2009 at the cashier’s desk. 

• All items are sold “as is” and many come with special conditions. Number of participants cannot be negotiated. 

Glorietta Parents Club makes no representation or warranty of any kind. Any details must be arranged by winning 

bidder and donor; we suggest bidders contact donors within two weeks of the auction. 

• Every effort was made to portray accurate dollar values, expiration dates, and special conditions in this catalog. 

In the event that the catalog and certificate differ, the certificate’s terms prevail. 

• Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and/or services must be used by February 21, 2010. 

• No tax deduction is allowable except when a taxpayer can show that payment exceeded the fair market value of the 

item or services received. (See IRS Revenue Ruling #67-246, issued 8-4-98) 

Silent Auction 

• Silent Auction bidding will begin at 5:00 pm and tables will start closing at 6:15 pm in the order listed on the Event 

Guide, page 3. The Last Chance Table will close after 9:00 pm. 

• In order to bid on an item, each bidder must legibly write their last name, bid number and bid amount on the bid 

sheet. Bid sheets state the starting bid amount and minimum increases between bids. Winners will be determined by 

these rules. Once a bid is entered, it may not be removed. 

• Bid sheets may not be removed from the table. 

• Bidder’s signature on the bid sheet constitutes a legal contract to buy. In case of dispute, the Auction Chair will have 

the final discretion to determine the winning bid. 

• Fixed Price Events are available on a first-come basis. By listing your name and number on an available space, bidder 

is automatically included in the event. 

• Once a table has been closed, the table closer will collect all bid sheets and no further bids will be accepted. Winner’s 

name will be circled in ink. 

Live Auction 

• The Live Auction will begin at 7:15 pm and will continue until all items have been auctioned. To enter a bid, bidders 

hold up their bid number, so that it is visible to the auctioneer. The highest bid acknowledged by the auctioneer will 

be the purchaser. The auctioneer will have the final authority to determine the winning bidder. 

Check Out 

• After making payment at the cashier’s desk, items may be claimed by presenting a “paid receipt.” Do not remove items 

on your own. A cashier will advise bidders where to pick up purchases. All items must be picked up and paid for at the 

close of the evening.

Dear Fellow Glorietta Parents, 

Of all the schools, in all the towns, in all the state, our kids walk into Glorietta… and how lucky they are! Tonight we come together 

to celebrate our school and our community. We leave the troubles of the larger world behind for an evening, and we revel in all that is 

good in our children’s lives – especially Glorietta Elementary School. 

As auction co-chairs, we are excited to bring you Casablanca, Glorietta’s 27th annual auction. We have high hopes for a lively and 

successful evening. Thank you to the many caring and generous parents, committed faculty and supportive community businesses 

involved in bringing this auction to fruition. Together, you have ensured Glorietta’s ability to continue its tradition of educational 

excellence and enriched curriculum. 

In keeping with tradition, we would like to thank a number of people by presenting the coveted exit visas from Casablanca to: 

j Ghi La Porta for the herculean task of managing the database. She is the glue that held all the pieces together. And to the entire 

database team for their allegiance to the cause. 

j Shelli Brudzinski and Laura Millham for their dedication and perseverance in bringing in parent donations. They encouraged 

and cajoled our parent population and the end result is a fantastic selection of items to bid on. 

j Amy Berryhill for being a great mentor. She brought clarity to the process and encouraged the launch of the online auction.

Ever wonder what school is like at night? For a 

night of fun and frolic, six lucky students will 

spend the evening at Glorietta with Ms. Johnson 

and Mrs. English. They’ll have pizza in the 

teachers’ lounge, free-choice time in Room 3, play 

indoor soccer in the multi, hear a story in the 

library, take a flashlight walk around school, 

stargaze, and listen to the night sounds. Bring a 

favorite stuffed animal and a flashlight. When the 

teachers and principal are away, all the children 

will play…

2 PILLOW FIGHT! 

After-hours Fun with ALL the First Grade Teachers. 

Five students. Friday, April 17, April 24, or May 8. 

When the cat’s away, the mice will play! Join us for 

a night of fun, yummy treats, arts and crafts, and a 

riveting movie. Five lucky students will join all five 

of the First Grade Teachers for an evening of 

adventure! There will be pizza, ice cream sundaes, 

games, stories and several movies to choose from 

in Room One. Wear your cozy pajamas and bring 

your favorite stuffed animal and pillow! Did

Bowling with the Second Grade Teachers. 

Five students. Friday, April 10. 

Five Gophers will depart on an after-school 

adventure and hit the fast lane in search of a place 

to land a strike with Michelle Bello, Stacy Howard, 

Regina Occhiogrosso and Gail Ronneberg! After 

bowling they’ll head out for yummy food and then 

grab some dessert. Students will be delivered to 

their homes in the evening. That’s a perfect score!

Glorietta’s own artist-in-residence has produced 

another stunning, original framed artwork for his 

annual Glorietta exhibit. And you thought great

6 TREK TO THE TECH 

Tech Museum with Sue Johnson and Tricia Newhart. 

Two students. Date to be arranged, prior to June 15. 

The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose has 

one focus, to inspire the innovator in everyone. 

With truly hands-on and interactive exhibits 

divided among themed galleries, The Tech 

Museum is an awesome experience. The 

Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater and the various 

unique museum programs are a must see for all 

adventurers. Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Newhart will 

take two lucky students to see the exhibits, watch 

an IMAX show, enjoy lunch at the Tech, and stop 

for ice cream on the way home.

7 HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU! 

Hike and Ice Cream with Fourth Grade Teachers. 

Six students. Saturday or Sunday before June 1. 

Six lucky students will join our terrific trio of 

Leanne Cusack, Erica Eldridge and Kate Riedell 

for a late morning hike and enjoy the beautiful 

natural surroundings of the East Bay Regional 

Park. And what better way to cool your heels than 

to head out for ice cream afterwards. Yum!

concoct green slime potions and sizzling bubbly 

sensations. The final experiment will be making 

Mrs. Harriman’s famous cookies to take home. Date

and then head over to Casa Alessi where you will 

create your own ice cream sundae and play some

school with Mrs. Templeton. You bring the 

sleeping bags and pillows and Mrs. Templeton will 

provide refreshments.

Afternoon of Baking with Cheryl McNair. 

Four students. Monday, April 6. 2:00-4:00 p.m. 

Sugar and spice and everything nice, but this is not 

just for the girls. The gloves are off and the aprons 

are on for this afternoon of bake-off fun with our 

own sweet treat, Mrs. McNair! You’ll enjoy a 

movie and snack in the Staff Room. Take a plate of 

fresh baked goodies home and sweep everyone off 

their feet.

for the A’s with two of their biggest fans, Mrs.

Glorietta’s very own awesome P.E. teachers. Let’s

Dinner and Movie with Caroline Nolan. 

Four students. To be completed before June 13. 

Ah, this is the life! Forget about homework and 

learn what life beyond Glorietta is really like. Four 

lucky students will share an unforgettable evening 

with Mrs. Nolan. Start with the latest blockbuster 

to hit the big screen and then head out for dinner 

and dessert. You will have Mrs. Nolan all to 

yourselves, so ask those tough questions about 

OIS. There is only one caveat: this special evening 

must take place before June 13.

16 LET’S PLAY ~ IT’S FIELD DAY! 

Afternoon of Fun, Games and Ice Cream with 

Wendy Sparks, Carol Marin and Sue Ellen Thomas. 


You must remember this – good, old fashioned field 

days when we would race around having fun, 

compete in sack races and try our turn at the balloon 

toss? Well, four lucky students will spend a glorious 

afternoon at the Lafayette Reservoir with our stellar 

principal, Mrs. Sparks, and awesome aides Mrs. 

Marin and Mrs. Thomas, recreating those heady 

days and putting a smile on our kids’ faces. After all 

the fun in the sun it will be time to cool off with ice

Register your group and we’ll keep track of all of the accounting so you won’t have to! 

Group Bidding Hints: 

• Identify a captain for each group… he/she will perform the bidding. 

• The captain will be responsible for full payment unless a Group Bid Form is submitted to the cashier which 

allocates the payment portions to group members. Group Bid Form must include the Group Members:

• While planning your group bid, determine ahead of time the maximum amount that each bidder is willing to pay. 

• In the Silent Auction, turn in a Group Bid Form if you expect you may win. In the Live Auction, return the Group
