1 OSMOSISHow to recognizeosmosisAfter each boating season it isadvisable to check the hull of yourboat. When the boat has beenhauled out of water, pressure washthe hull with fresh water andinspect it carefully.There are blisters and blisters.Some blisters occur for reasonsother than osmosis. Old layers ofantifoulings which are porous anddelaminating can cause blistering.Blisters originating from osmosisare easy to recognize for theircharacteristic dome shape, becausethey are hard to cut openand because they contain a liquidwith a strong vinegar smell.If you are concerned that the hullis affected by osmosis, removethe antifouling in 6 spots of thehull, 3 on each side, at the center,the stern and the bow. For eachspot an area of 10 X 10 cm issufficient. Measure the humiditycontent in the hull with a suitablehumidity gauge. If the hull is affectedby osmosis, the humiditycontent will be significantly higherthan 10%.HUMIDITY GAUGESThe dielectric constant of water is75 times higher than that of airand significantly higher than thatof boat building materials. The barrier effectof AQUASTOPin the osmosisREPAIR SYSTEMIATTENTION:ALWAYS APPLYTHE RECOMMENDEDQUANTITYOF AQUASTOP!In the case of new boats, the gel-coat acts as an waterproofbarrier. When osmosis occurs, the gel-coat must be removedcompletely and replaced with an Aquastop coating of at least600 microns.ATTENTION. On the market you can find sometimes glass laminatesof poor quality, which may affect the performance of theAQUASTOP system.In this case we recommend to apply an additional coat ofAQUASTOP with brush as a sealer, prior to the application the repairsystem of 600 microns.REMARK. It is of outmost importance to comply with thethickness specified by Veneziani.You can check the thickness as follows:Measure the thickness during application with a wet thicknessgauge.OrApply, independently from the number of coats and the applicationmethod, the recommended liters, using the theoreticalcoverage of AQUASTOP for the calculation: 5m 2 /L.Example. For a hull of 30 m 2 you need 6,6 L of AQUASTOP per coat with a totalconsumption of about 20 L for the whole repair system.
