PrefaceThis document provides information on installing <strong>SATEON</strong>.This version of the document relates to <strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5. It may not include changesincorporated in later versions of the software.Date of latest update: December 2012.About <strong>SATEON</strong><strong>SATEON</strong> is a powerful yet easy-to-use browser-based access control system that allowsusers to manage and monitor physical access to sites. It integrates access control, alarmand incident monitoring, visitor management and reporting facilities.<strong>SATEON</strong> is installed on a central server, and can then be accessed from any location via abrowser-based interface. No software needs to be installed on the client PCs.About this guideThis document describes how to install <strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5.It is aimed at installers and support engineers with a good knowledge of Windowssystems, particularly using Microsoft SQL Server and Internet Information Services (IIS).This guide includes the following information:• Section 1 - Preparing to install <strong>SATEON</strong>. Server specificationHardware requirementsGrosvenor Technology re<strong>com</strong>mends the following as the minimum specification of themain <strong>SATEON</strong> server:• Processor – 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor• RAM – 4 GB RAM• Hard drive – 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) available• Graphics – DirectX 9 graphic device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driverOperating system supportThe following operating systems are supported:• Windows Server 2008 (Service Pack 2)• Release 2• Microsoft Windows 7 (Professional and Ultimate versions)Note: We re<strong>com</strong>mend that all outstanding Windows updates are applied to youroperating system before installing <strong>SATEON</strong>.Server software prerequisitesThe following software is required by <strong>SATEON</strong>:• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2• SQL Server Reporting Services• .NET Framework, Version 4.0 or laterNote: If you use the “one-step” <strong>SATEON</strong> installation, these prerequisites are automaticallyincluded in the installation process. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2SQL Server is a relational database server from Microsoft which is designed for theenterprise environment. It includes Database, Reporting and Integration services.<strong>SATEON</strong> requires Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. You must have one of the followingeditions:• Enterprise Edition• Standard Edition• Express Edition with Advanced Services. This is available as a free download but notethat the Advanced Services version, which includes full-text search and reportingoptions, is required.Note: The SQL Server Express Edition is intended for small-scale installations. There is a10 GB size limit per database (not including log files) and regardless of the amount ofmemory available the application will only use a maximum of 1 GB. This is the edition thatis installed by the “one-step” installer.Ensure that whichever edition you are running, all relevant Service Packs have beeninstalled.SSRSTo run the reporting features of <strong>SATEON</strong> you require SQL Server Reporting Services(SSRS). This is a server-based report generation software system, which is included inEnterprise, Standard and Express editions of Microsoft SQL Server as an install option.If SQL Server is already present but the SSRS option has not been installed, you can usethe SQL Server <strong>Installation</strong> Center to reconfigure the installation, adding the ReportingServices option..NET FrameworkBoth .NET Framework Version 4.0 and Version 3.5 are required on all systems. Thissoftware framework includes a large library of coded solutions to <strong>com</strong>mon programmingissues. On Windows Server 2008 .NET is not installed by default, but it can be downloadedfrom the Microsoft Download Center.Other software<strong>SATEON</strong> also requires the following:• Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), which provides Web server functionalityfor Windows.• Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ), which enables co-operating applications tosend and receive messages.If IIS and MSMQ are not already present on the server, the <strong>SATEON</strong> installer will installand configure them.<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 9 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


Client requirementsAny number of client machines can access the <strong>SATEON</strong> user interface via a browser. Nosoftware needs to be installed on client <strong>com</strong>puters, but the following are required:Browser supportAt present only Microsoft Internet Explorer (v7 and above) is supported.Screen resolutionThe minimum re<strong>com</strong>mended screen resolution for <strong>SATEON</strong> is 1280 x 800.Silverlight plug-inThe <strong>SATEON</strong> user interface uses Microsoft Silverlight technology, which requires abrowser plug-in to be installed. If not already present, the user will be prompted to installthis plug-in the first time that <strong>SATEON</strong> is run. We re<strong>com</strong>mend Silverlight Version 5 orabove.Licensing<strong>SATEON</strong> requires a valid licence before it can be used. This may be a trial licence or a fulllicence. Licensing is a two-stage process:• You will need to load a suitable licence as soon as possible after installation. Thelicence can be provided as a text file or as a string of text.• The licence then needs to be validated within 30 days by calling Grosvenor TechnicalSupport.For details, see Installing a valid licence on page 36.Note: If you do not have a licence file yet, contact Grosvenor Technical Support as soon aspossible.<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 10 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012

“One-step” installationFor small-scale installations, a “one-step” installation is available which installs everythingrequired to run <strong>SATEON</strong> on a single machine, i.e. the following:• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 – Express Edition with Advanced Services• SQL Server Reporting Services• .NET Framework (Version 3.5 and Version 4.0)• Silverlight Version 5• <strong>SATEON</strong>• IIS and MSMQ if requiredDo not use the “one-step” installation in the following situations:• If you already have a version of SQL Server 2008 R2 installed that you intend to usefor the <strong>SATEON</strong> database.• If you only want to install certain parts of the system on the selected machine.• If you don’t want to install the databases, or if you want to use different databasenames and instances rather than the defaults.• If you wish to use a specific user account to run <strong>SATEON</strong>.In these situations, use the installation wizard which permits more flexible configuration.See Running the installation wizard on page 15. If you plan to install the application andthe database on separate <strong>com</strong>puters, see Multi-tier installation on page 24.<strong>Installation</strong> files are provided in the Installer folder on the installation media.Note: Before running the install process, ensure you are logged on to an Administratoraccount on the PC/server, with full permissions.Running the “one-step” installBefore installing, ensure the hardware specification of the proposed machine is adequate.See Server specification on page 8.To run the install1. Run <strong>SATEON</strong> Setup.exe.2. If .NET Framework is not present on the server, you will be prompted to install it first:<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 12 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


Click Accept and Install to install the .NET Framework.3. The Licence Agreement dialog appears:4. After reading the terms of the licence, select the checkbox to confirm acceptance ofthe terms and conditions and click the Install button.<strong>SATEON</strong> will be installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Grosvenor Technology Ltd\ bydefault.To choose an alternative location, click thebutton.5. This dialog allows you to choose the specific features to be installed. If the databasesare being installed, you need to specify the SQL server and instance. You can alsospecify the Report Server. Click Back to return to the main Install screen.6. Click Install to start the installation. Note: The entire process may take some time, especially if all prerequisites need to beinstalled.7. When installation is <strong>com</strong>plete, the following dialog appears:8. You may be prompted to restart your <strong>com</strong>puter. Click Yes to restart and <strong>com</strong>pletethe installation. If you press No you will have to restart later before you can use<strong>SATEON</strong>.After installation we re<strong>com</strong>mend you start up the <strong>SATEON</strong> user interface to ensure itworks correctly. See After installation on page 29.Running the installation wizardThis section describes the flexible installation process, which you should use in place ofthe “one-step” installation in the following situations:• If you already have a version of SQL Server 2008 R2 installed that you intend to usefor the <strong>SATEON</strong> database.• If you only want to install certain parts of the system on the selected machine.• If you don’t want to install the databases, or if you want to use different databasenames and instances rather than the defaults.• If you wish to use a specific user account to run <strong>SATEON</strong>.The installation information and the files themselves are in the installation package<strong>SATEON</strong> Installer.msi, provided in the Installer\<strong>SATEON</strong> folder on the installation media.<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 15 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


Running the installation wizard sets up the website files, creates the services, installs andconfigures the SQL databases and sets up reports. It also checks for the presence of IISand MSMQ, and installs these if they are not already present. It will not install otherprerequisites, so make sure these are present before starting the install. (See Serversoftware prerequisites on page 8.)Note: Before running the install process, ensure you are logged on to an Administratoraccount on the PC/server, with full permissions.As part of the installation process, you can choose either to perform a basic install, withall defaults applied, or you can customise the details of the features installed and theirlocations.To install <strong>SATEON</strong> using the default settings1. Run Sateon Installer.msi. The installation wizard starts:2. Click Next. The Licence Agreement dialog appears:<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 16 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


3. After reading the Licence Agreement, select the checkbox to accept the agreementand click Next. The following dialog appears:4. To install <strong>SATEON</strong> using all the default settings, click Install Now.<strong>SATEON</strong> will be installed in the default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\GrosvenorTechnology Ltd\) with all other default configuration.If the Install Now button is greyed out, the installation cannot proceed since at least oneof the prerequisites is missing:<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 17 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


Click the More Info button for details for missing items, for example:In this case, you must cancel the installation and install the missing items before<strong>SATEON</strong> can be installed. To install <strong>SATEON</strong> using customised settings1. Run Sateon Installer.msi. The installation wizard starts.2. Click Next to display the Licence Agreement.3. After reading the Licence Agreement, select the checkbox to accept the agreementand click Next. The following dialog appears:4. Click the Customise button to define various aspects of the installation. TheDestination Folder dialog appears:5. 6. Click Next. The Custom Setup dialog appears:7. Click Next. At this point a window appears confirming the system prerequisites forthe items you have selected:Click Next.If any of the requirements are not met they appear in red, for example:<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 20 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


Click the More Info button for details of what needs to be installed.In this case you must click Cancel to cancel the installation and install all missingitems before repeating the installation. See Preparing to install on page 7.8. As long as all prerequisites are in place, the Account Information dialog appears:On this page you need to configure the account under which <strong>SATEON</strong> is run.By default, the installation uses the local service account. If you wish to use a specific useraccount, provide a valid name and password, which must already exist.<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 21 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


9. Click Next. If the database are being installed on this system, the SQL ServerInformation dialog appears:Specify the SQL server and instance and the authentication methods to be used if thedefault values don’t apply. Click Test DB to test the connection to the database. Theinstallation cannot proceed until this has been done successfully.10. Click Next. Access to SSRS is required to run <strong>SATEON</strong> Reports. Overwrite the SQL ReportingServices URL if it is located anywhere other than the default location.If you want to use a specific account, provide a username and password. Otherwisethe currently logged in system account will be used.11. The following dialog appears.12. Click Install to start the installation of the requested features.Note: This can take some time: 15 minutes or more if IIS and MSMQ need to be installed.13. Note: If any errors are encountered during the installation, the installation will becancelled and any changes made by the installer will be rolled back.Running the database creation scriptsIf the database creation scripts are not run as part of the installation process they willneed to be run separately on the SQL server machine.If you selected the Script Only button when installing <strong>SATEON</strong>, the scripts will be installedin a folder called Database Scripts (in the default location Program Files (x86)\GrosvenorTechnology Ltd\<strong>SATEON</strong> unless you have specified an alternative).The files are as follows:• sql_acs.sql – creates the SateonAcs database.• sql_area.sql – creates the SateonAreas database.• sql_ess.sql – creates the SateonESS database.• sql_galaxy.sql – creates the SateonGalaxy database.• sql_incident.sql – creates the SateonIncidents database.• sql_iv.sql – creates the SateonIndigoVision database.• sql_loc.sql – creates the SateonServiceLocator database.• sql_logging.sql – creates the SateonLogging database.• sql_sateon.sql – creates the Sateon database.• sql_tokens.sql – creates the SateonTokens database.• sql_vicon.sql – creates the SateonViconVideo database.• The scripts can be run from within SQL Server Management Studio or by doubleclickingon the file names.Multi-tier installationIn some instances, you may wish to install the <strong>SATEON</strong> databases and Report Server onone server and the <strong>SATEON</strong> application and services on another. This section outlines thesteps to do this.Note: In this situation you must use the installation wizard, rather than the one-stepinstallation.Installing the <strong>SATEON</strong> databases and Report ServerLog on to the server to be used for the SQL database and follow the instructions below.1. From the installation location, run Sateon Installer.msi.2. After accepting the licence terms, select the Customise option:<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 24 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


3. From the Custom Setup page, select <strong>SATEON</strong> (at the root) from the drop-down, andchoose the Entire feature will be unavailable option to deselect it.4. 5. Select <strong>SATEON</strong> Reports and choose the option Entire feature will be installed onlocal hard drive:6. Click Next. At this point a window appears confirming the system prerequisites forthe items you have selected (Windows 7 and .NET 4.0)7. Click Next to set the SQL Server information and the SSRS settings, as described inRunning the installation wizard on page 15.8. Installing the <strong>SATEON</strong> applicationLog onto the server that you are going to use for the <strong>SATEON</strong> application and follow theinstructions below:1. From the installation location, run Sateon Installer.msi.2. After accepting the licence terms, select the Customise option:3. From the Custom Setup page, select <strong>SATEON</strong> (at the root) from the drop-down, andchoose the Entire feature will be unavailable option to deselect it.4. Select <strong>SATEON</strong> Services and then the option Entire feature will be installed on localhard drive.<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 27 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


5. Select <strong>SATEON</strong> Utilities and then the option Entire feature will be installed on localhard drive.6. Select <strong>SATEON</strong> Translate and then the option Entire feature will be installed on localhard drive.7. Select <strong>SATEON</strong> Website and then the option Entire feature will be installed on localhard drive.8. Click Next. At this point a window appears confirming the system prerequisites forthe items you have selected9. Click Next to set the Service account information settings and the SQL Serverinformation, as described in Running the installation wizard on page 15.10. Click Next to start the install.Post-installation checksTo ensure <strong>com</strong>munication between systems, check DTC (Distributed TransactionCoordinator) and security settings on both <strong>com</strong>puters:To check DTC1. Open the Services dialog (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services).2. See Installing a licencebelow for details.Note: We strongly re<strong>com</strong>mend that to ensure the security of the system you change thedefault passwords and set up additional system users and passwords as soon aspossible.Installing a licence<strong>SATEON</strong> requires a valid licence before it is used. This may be a trial licence or a fulllicence.When <strong>SATEON</strong> is first installed, the only page available is the Licensing page. You willneed to load a suitable licence file as soon as possible after installation before any otherparts of the systems are accessible.Licensing is a two-stage process:• Load the new licence to access all licensed <strong>SATEON</strong> options.• Verify the licence within 30 days by calling Grosvenor Technical Support.Note: If you do not have a licence file, contact Grosvenor Technical Support as soon aspossible to obtain a licence.The licence may be provided in one of two ways:• As a file, which will have the .gtl file extension.• As a string of encrypted data (for example, included in an email).<strong>SATEON</strong> Release 2.5 36 Issue 1.0<strong>Installation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> December 2012


To install a <strong>SATEON</strong> licence1. Choose Systems Administration > Licensing to display details of the current licence.If there is no valid licence the page is as follows:2. Do one of the following:−−If you have a licence in file format, ensure it is in an accessible location. SelectUpload a new licence file and click the Click to Start Upload button. A fileselection dialog appears. Navigate to the appropriate file (with the .gtl fileextension) and click Open. The new licence file is installed.If you have the encrypted licence data, select Copy/paste the licence below.Cut the entire string from the source email or document and paste it into thetext box. Click Save Licence.3. If the licence is successfully loaded, the following dialog box appears:Click OK. The log in dialog is redisplayed.4. When you log back in, the main <strong>SATEON</strong> page appears. Additional options areavailable at the top of the main <strong>SATEON</strong> page. At this point the licence is loaded but not verified. It will need to be verified within 30days for <strong>SATEON</strong> to continue to work.To verify a licence1. 3. Contact Grosvenor Technical Support (see Technical Support on page 6). You willneed to provide your System ID number (which appears at the top of the Licensingpage) and the 16-digit Validation Code.4. Technical Support will give you a 16-digit licence Verification Code. When youreceive the code, click the Enter Verification Code button. The following dialogappears:5. Enter the 16-digit Verification Number given to you and press OK. The licence isverified, and you will be logged out. Uninstalling <strong>SATEON</strong>You can uninstall <strong>SATEON</strong> if you no longer wish to use the application. There is no needto uninstall <strong>SATEON</strong> before installing a new version. Uninstalling will remove theapplications, services and files, but the databases will be left in place. Any prerequisitetools installed as part of the one-step install will be left in place.Note: We re<strong>com</strong>mend that you use the same installer to uninstall <strong>SATEON</strong> as was usedfor the installation: i.e. run <strong>SATEON</strong> Setup.exe if you ran the one-step install, andSateon Installer.msi if you used the full install.To uninstall <strong>SATEON</strong> using the one-step installer1. Run <strong>SATEON</strong> Setup.exe. The installation wizard starts and detects that <strong>SATEON</strong> isalready installed. Upgrading <strong>SATEON</strong>To upgrade <strong>SATEON</strong> from Release 2.4 to Release 2.5, you can run the installer utility inthe same way as running a clean install. Overview of token printing<strong>SATEON</strong> supports the printing of tokens on a suitable printer. The card printer willnormally be attached to a separate, dedicated PC and in order for printing to workcorrectly you need to install the Token Printing service on this PC and ensure it is set upto <strong>com</strong>municate with the <strong>SATEON</strong> server. This separate installation is described here.Note: The token printing service is also installed as part of the main <strong>SATEON</strong> application,so if you are running a token printer directly from the server you do not need to install itseparately.RequirementsCertain prerequisites need to be present on the PC used for printing tokens:• .NET Framework, Version 4.0 or later.• .NET Portable Update.• .SQL Server Compact, Version 4.0The Token Printing Service needs access to SSRS, in order to access the reports thatdefine the card layouts, and it needs to <strong>com</strong>municate with the SateonServiceLocator, inorder to <strong>com</strong>municate with the rest of <strong>SATEON</strong>. Running the installer1. From the installation location, run Sateon Installer.msi.2. On the first screen, Click Next. The Licence Agreement dialog appears.3. After reading the Licence Agreement, select the checkbox to accept the agreementand click Next. The following dialog appears:4. Select the Customise option. On the Destination Folder dialog accept the default orclick Change to select an alternative location.5. Click Next. The Custom Setup dialog appears. On the Account Information dialog you need to configure the accountunder which <strong>SATEON</strong> is run. If you wish to use a specific user account, provide avalid name and password, which must already exist.9. Click Next.Access to SSRS is required to run <strong>SATEON</strong> Reports. The system checks that all prerequisites are present.
