The admissions processSouth Hampstead High School is a popular school. Entryis competitive at each stage of entry – 4+ (Reception),7+ (Year 3), 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Sixth Form).Joining the Junior SchoolWe encourage everyone interested in our school tocome for a visit. It’s the best way to experience thewarm and friendly environment and an opportunityto see the girls in action.The Head of the Junior School provides tours forprospective parents in the Junior School regularly,throughout the year. There is also one Open Day eachsummer which provides an opportunity to see theSchool close up with tours led by our Year 6 girls. Bothtours can be booked by contacting the Junior School.Entry to the Junior Department at 4+(Reception)We offer places to 24 girls at 4+ based on theirperformance in assessments.We recommend parents register their interest withthe Junior Department at least two years before theirdaughter is due to start school. Application forms aresent to all registered parents on the 1st of October, twoyears before their daughter is due to start Reception.The registration list is closed after the first 250applications are received. Further applicants are placedon a waiting list.The first assessment is held in the autumn, one yearbefore entry. All 250 girls are invited to the School. Noformal knowledge is expected. It is an enjoyable visit thatshould be considered as a ‘play date’.The girls visit in groups of 12 with five assessors. Weinvite back approximately half of the candidates fora second assessment in the spring. At this stage, werequest references. Places then are offered on the basisof performance.Entry to the Junior Department at 7+(Year 3)The School welcomes an additional 24 children at 7+.We open registration approximately 18 months inadvance and close the list after the first 120 applicationsare received.All applicants are invited for assessment in the springterm of Year 2. We request references from eachcandidate’s current school before the assessment.Girls who perform well in assessment are invited backin groups of 10 to 12 for observed activities and theopportunity for the team of assessors to get to knowthe girls. Places are offered to girls on the basis of theirperformance on both days.Transferring to the Senior SchoolTransfer from the Junior School to the Senior Schoolis anticipated. Children do not need to sit the entranceexamination, unless they would like to be considered fora bursary or scholarship.The happiness of each girl is our first priority. If theSchool doesn’t feel it is in a girl’s best interest to transferto the Senior School, parents will be given plenty ofnotice and the School will work closely with the familyto find a suitable alternative.89
Joining the Senior SchoolThe best way to experience the energy and excitementof South Hampstead High School is to visit us. TheSenior School holds a number of Open Mornings in theautumn term for families with daughters taking the 11+examination. These visits can be booked by contactingthe Senior School Admissions Office or on our website.Open Mornings begin at 9.30 and are scheduled for:• Wednesday, 15 September 2010• Tuesday, 21 September 2010• Friday, 15 October 2010• Friday, 5 November 2010• Wednesday, 10 November 2010• Thursday, 18 November 2010Entry to the Senior School at 11+ (Year 7)The Senior School welcomes an additional intake ofgirls in Year 7. For entry in September 2011, applicationforms should be returned to us by 3 December2010. All registered candidates will sit the entranceexamination on 7 January 2011. Individuals who performwell on the examination will be invited for an interview.Places are offered in early March.South Hampstead High School is part the NorthLondon Independent Girls’ Schools’ Consortium.The Consortium sets common examination papersand shares results. Full details of the North LondonIndependent Girls’ Schools’ Consortium Agreed Codeof Practice and past papers are available on our websiteor from our Admissions Office.Transferring to the Sixth FormTransfer from Year 11 into the Sixth Form is anticipated.Girls do not need to sit the entrance examination,unless they would like to be considered for a bursaryor scholarship.1011
