Pure water treatment anion exchangemonitoring detects thefirst breakthrough of silica to triggerregeneration before contaminationreaches subsequent treatmentstages.Power steam quality monitoringprotects turbines from silica depositionand resulting imbalance, lossof capacity and efficiency. Silicameasurement and control may alsobe needed to meet turbine manufacturerwarranty requirements.Power condensate polishermonitoring can detect the needfor regeneration at low ppb levelsbefore feedwater is significantlycontaminated.3

Silica Analyzer2800Si Silica AnalyzerReliable OperationOperationIn the analyzer the sample passesthrough an overflow assembly thatassures a fresh up-to-date sampleis always available at the start ofeach measurement cycle. A rinseperiod purges the previous samplefrom the reaction/measurementchamber and fills it with thecurrent sample. The measurementis zeroed. Then, reagentsare metered in and reaction timeallowed to produce a color changeproportional to silica concentration.Where phosphates are present, anadditional reagent is included tominimize its interference. The measurement is made, the displayand outputs are updated andthe cycle repeats. The operator canconfigure the measurement intervalto optimize the tradeoff of responsetime vs. reagent consumption. The2800Si conforms to ASTM TestMethod D7126.The measurement incorporates IntelligentSensor Management capabilitywhich stores identification, calibration and additional sensordata within the sensor. The measuringcircuit is built into the sensorwhich then sends a robust digitalsignal to the readout module.CalibrationThe 2800Si performs a zero calibrationbefore each measurementcycle. An automatic span calibrationis performed at scheduledintervals (monthly is typical) usinga known silica concentration standard. The calibration cycle mayalso be initiated manually.InstallationThe analyzer is provided with a fulldust and drip resistant locking enclosurethat protects the reagentsand measurement componentsfrom the plant environment. .4
