The Legend of Bonnieand Clydeand Their Connections to Pilot PointBonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, both born in Texas, meton the east side of Dallas and were among the most famousof criminals during the time of the Great Depression. Theycaptured the imagination of the American press andnewspaper readers nationwide. Bonnie and Clyde’s exploits area travelogue of North Texas. They visited cities all around PilotPoint including Kaufman, Hillsboro, Sherman, Grapevine andDenton. They never pulled a robbery in Pilot Point; howeversome old-timers swore they saw the two buying groceries andgas at times in town. Legend has it that they hid out in thewoods around Pilot Point which were then, as they are now, some of the thickest woods in North Texas. It was also saidthat they hid out in a house belonging to an aunt located on theoutskirts of town, which is why they never robbed any businessin Pilot Point.Bonnie and Clyde returned to Pilot Point some thirty-threeyears later. In 1967 producer and lead actor, Warren Beatty, was looking for quintessential small Texas towns to film Bonnieand Clyde. Many of the actual locations of Bonnie and Clyderobberies had simply disappeared over time or been swallowedby the growth of Dallas. Alternative locations were chosen fortheir perceived authentic look over the actual locations, whichhad been lost.10 www.380Guide.com

Eckert Hyundaia Family PlaceJust walking through the doors of Eckert Hyundai seems more likewalking into a ski lodge than walking into a car dealership. In 1995,brothers Mike and Mark Eckert started Eckert Hyundai in a very smallbuilding on I-35E in Denton. At that time, the Hyundai brand was stillin its young stages. With the growth and recognition of Hyundai, theEckerts have moved into their new facility and have seen sales increaseby 25 percent. Clients say that doing business with Eckert Hyundaiis unlike any other car car-buying experience they’ve ever had. Thedealership’s low- pressure and family-type atmosphere has allowedEckert Hyundai to become one of the top-rated customer satisfactiondealerships in the nation, as well as one of the few A-rated cardealerships in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The casual atmosphere atthe dealership, where the sales staff wears shorts, golf shirts and tennisshoes, seems to be paying off. As the summer’s temperatures haverisen, so have Eckert Hyundai’s sales. However, there is more thancomfort behind the dress code as the facility’s informality goes beyondshowroom attire. “We’re more about team attitude and less abouthigh pressure sales tactics,” says Mark Eckert. Douglas Peyton, theFleet and Leasing Manager, has been with Eckert Hyundai since 2009.After selling Lexus for many years, he has chosen to sell Hyundais dueto the outstanding craftsmanship and quality. With vehicles like theall-new SONATA, GENESIS, and TUCSON, and with the EQUUScoming out later this year, Doug is very excited to see just how far theHyundai brand can go. Please stop in and ask for Doug Peyton. Lethim show you how doing business with Eckert Hyundai will be thebest car-buying experience you have ever had. For more informationcontact Douglas Peyton at 940.243.6205 or visit www.eckerthyundai.com.12 www.380Guide.com

Prairie HouseJodie Linton-PrickettHands down one of my favorite foods any where (not limited to the380 corridor) comes from the Prairie House located off Highway380 in Cross Roads, TX. I could write an entire article over myaffection for their Bandidos ($7.95 full order).I have tried like items elsewhere and you justcan’t duplicate perfection. If you like spicyyou will love these mouth-watering jalapenosstuffed with jalapeno cheese, wrapped insucculent chicken and bacon then slatheredin barbecue sauce with a side of homemaderanch for dipping. These bites of rightnessare served up in a small cast iron skillet. I amnot sure why, but I am sure you will agree thatby presenting something to the table in thesizzling hot pan in which it was just cookedusually ups the enjoyment ante of any dish.Another very popular entrée is the fall offthe bone, melt in your mouth, slow smokedbaby back ribs ($16.95 full order). The woodfired mesquite smoker with no gas involvedcooks these babies up in appetizer size (9.95).One thing you are sure to find a the PrairieHouse is consistency and quality. The steaks such as the sixounce filet ($14.95) are hormone free, grain fed and wet aged for28 days before they are cooked to order and served with a saladand choice of potato to your table. If your looking for somethingdifferent try the Buffalo burger ($9.95) a half pond of lean bisonmesquite grilled to specification served with your choice of potatoand cowboy beans. This was voted the best Buffalo burger inDallas. Starting in September breakfast will be served Saturdaysand Sundays from 8am to noon. The restaurant’s ambiance is aperfect match for its setting and the food offeringsmaking the Prairie House more of a dinningexperience than just a place to eat. and explained they would be playing musical shapes. Thechildren walked around in a circle and when the super herothemed music stopped they would find a shape. The kids lovedit and the best part was the fact that noone “lost.” If someone couldn’t find ashape, they stood in the middle of thecircle and did something silly as theothers followed their lead.Next, we moved on to my son’sfavorite game, the obstacle course. Itwas a simple course, but the best partwas Spiderman waiting at the end. Afterthe course was completed, the childrenhad to try and hit him in the leg with thefoam swords they were given. Spidermandid a great job eluding them for a little bit before his leg was hit.The kids were laughing hysterically.I was unaware of this, but Spiderman sleeps with rubberduckies. I guess he was so exhausted from the party that hefell asleep. Bat Girl told the kids she thought it would be funnyif they snuck up and grabbed one from him. Spiderman isa restless sleeper. Right when they went to grab a duckie hewould turn over and start mumbling something. Even thoughour kids were super hero’s they got scared easily.Spiderman woke up and got his duckies back and then hebrought out his parachute. The birthday boy sat in the middlewhile the rest of the kids made slow waves then changed to fastwaves. Next, all the boys joined the birthday boy in the middle.Afterwards, the boys got off and the girls got their turn. At theend, all the children got to visit “Bat Girl’s Cave” by throwingthe parachute up in the air and sitting underneath it.Our final game was knocking down Iron man with foammissiles. Spiderman handed out the missiles as Bat Girl stoodby an Iron Man punching bag. Missiles were thrown until IronMan was knocked over. With all the games finished, it was timeto head to the cake room. It was another room completelydecorated with super heroes. The table had centerpieces basedon the theme and a huge HappyBirthday Banner with SpidermanKreative KidzOpen house September 12th1:00-3:00www.kreativekidzpartyz.comin the forefront was hanging rightbehind the birthday boy’s seat. Withcake finished, party favors werepassed out to complete the birthdayparty. We had chosen a Spidermanbook and erasable marker board forthe boys and purses with necklacesand lip gloss for the girls. Needlessto say, it was a super party, createdby heroic people, giving us of lots oflegendary memories. For more information you can visit theirwebsite at www.kreativekidzpartyz.com.
