Spot bonding through perforated sheets may not be useful andthe waterproof layer risks to be insufficiently bonded and may be blownaway in the first storm. Spot bonding is also used to distribute andtherefore attenuate the mechanical stress of the substrate.Waterproofing membranes2SOLUTION ON DAMP CONCRETE SUPPORT31. Damp concrete support2. VAPORDIFFUSER/V3. Standard mineral finish membrane2VAPORDIFFUSER/V is the membrane designedby Index to resolve the problem of vapourdiffusion while guaranteeing an optimaladhesion in time, also on uneven surfaces. The underside of VAPORDIFFUSER/V hasa series of large bitumen knobs coveringapproximately 35% of the surface with theexception of the overlapping side strip. The knobs protrude from the membrane 3.5÷4mm and once they have been heated with thetorch, become thick adhesive bitumen knobsthat adapt to the uneven substrate, forming astrong bond. The membrane adheres on the surface supportedby the bituminous knobs and an interspaceis formed between the waterproof layerand the substrate with a series of effectiveand diffusing channels for the humidity whichare much more efficient than those obtainedusing traditional perforated sheets. When torched, the supporting surface ofthe knobs increases slightly until it forms anadhesive area of approximately 40% of thesupporting surface.1SOLUTIONSOLUTION ON OLD BITUMEN COVERING31. Old bitumen covering2. VAPORDIFFUSER/V3. Standard mineral finish membrane21The adhesive surfaceis greater thenthat which can berealised with perforatedsheets (notmore than 20%) andfurthermore all ofthe bitumen knobsadhere, while withthe installation ofperforated sheetson uneven surfacesthere is the risk thatt h e w a t e r p r o o f -ing layer will not adhere to a great deal ofthe substrate and be blown away by strongwinds. The VAPORDIFFUSER/V knobs are closer togetherthan the holes in perforated sheets andthe adhesion and the mechanical stress fromthe substrate are more uniformly distributed.VAPORDIFFUSER/V is a very thick membranewhich forms a waterproof layer ofroughly 5 mm after installation (the thicknessof a perforated sheet is less than 1.5 mm) andso the layer is isolated better from the movementsof the substrate.Furthermore, the greater adhesive surfacemakes it possible to install VAPORDIF-ADVANTAGES• More resistant to wind than perforatedsheets.• Air-space for greater diffusion.• Can be laid on sloping roofs withoutnailing.INTENDED USE OF “CE”MARKING SPECIFIEDACCORDING TO THEAISPEC-MBP GUIDLINESEN 13707 - REINFORCED BITUMENSHEETS FOR ROOFWATERPROOFING• Under layer or intermediate layer inmulti-layer systems without permanent heavysurface protection- VAPORDIFFUSER/V 4 kg/m 2FUSER on steeper sloping surfaces (up to40%), without mechanical fixing.VAPORDIFFUSER/V is strengthened withreinforced rot-proof fibreglass mat and bothsides are coated with Flamina, a plastic filmthat melts when torched.APPLICATION FIELDSVAPORDIFFUSER/V is used for both newconstructions and renovation work, on dampsurfaces where blisters can form in the waterprooflayer. It can be installed as a visiblelayer directly on concrete or to renovatean old bituminous layer which is no longerwaterproof. The water vapour is drainedthrough aerators which are easy to install inthe VAPORDIFFUSER/V membrane.VAPORDIFFUSER/V can also be used onsubstrates such as certain types of insulatingpanels that can move and damage the waterprooflayer.(See following)V1 st DIVISION1 st LINE
