The SymbolThe new Matha’s Vineyard Museum symbol depicts adramatically beaming lighthouse to communicate notonly the Museum’s historical and geographical context, but also its mission. Two powerful beacons of light, shining in opposing directions, suggest the Museum’sdual functions of illuminating the past while leading intothe future.03

ColorThe colors chosen to represent the new identity establisha prominent and dynamic presence for theMuseum. The use of red is derived from the visuallanguage of nautical flags historically used to communicateacross great distances. The boldness of the redand black palette are intended to do the same for theMuseum, whether in use as wayfinding systems andsignage or in advertising and communcation materials. The optional blue and green color palette alternativelyreflects the colors of sea and sky – essential elements tothe island.Single color versions are provided to allow for instanceswhere printing costs or simplified applications of theindentity limit the use to only one color.05
