Lady Irish golfers who participated included sophomores Emily Musallam and MollySullivan, senior Abby Nowak, and 2011 graduate Carolyn Comes. The girls enjoyedthe event and tried to catch a glimpse of the professional players as they came in on the18 th hole.That same week, one of the Lady Irish junior varsity golfers, junior Allie Comes,volunteered for over 20 hours at a “Lose the Training Wheels” event, helping kids withspecial needs learn to ride bikes without training wheels. Allie was inspired by heryounger brother, John Ross Comes, who learned to ride his bike in the program threeyears ago. More Lady Irish golfers plan to volunteer at this event next year.Fighting Irish Golfers Work at Family HouseOn October 13, members of the boys’ golf team headed to Family House to volunteertheir time. The students washed walls leading up to the house’s new library and loungeand prepped the walls for painting. They also plucked weeds and turned mulch on thechildren’s playground. Family House is a non-profit organization that provides homelessfamilies in crisis with professional housing and social services and helps them becomeself-sufficient.Members of the Fighting Irish golf team are: Max Boyle, Aidan Dillon, Mike Furlong,Logan Klatt, Nick LaPorta, Nolan Martis, Alex McCartney, Evan McNair, JonahNeary, Noah Pierce, John Purviance, Eric Ragan, Gary Ruffier, Cullin Smith, andBrandon Viengmany.Rowers Compete at Frogtown RegattaSenior crew team members Emily Hooper and Maggie Steinmiller competed in the twomanevent at Toledo’s Frogtown Regatta in September. Neither Emily nor Maggie hadany experience working in a two-man boat, but they decided to compete less than a weekbefore the event. They spent extra hours practicing their technique, and their initiative,dedication, and determination led them to the bronze medal in the Women’s Open. Theyfinished just 35 seconds behind the silver medal winners.Spanish Club OfficersCongratulations to the following students were elected officers by the Spanish Club:President – Mike Burriola, Vice President – Aaron Powers, and Treasurer – MattMowka.
