The development <strong>of</strong> music therapy around the world has been linked with a<br />

number <strong>of</strong> factors unique to each country. Literature review about<br />

evaluation in music therapy shows a sharp contrast with reference to<br />

production <strong>of</strong> information between Latin-American Spanish and Portugal<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional context and the North American and Western European<br />

context.<br />

In the words <strong>of</strong> Ruud (1998): "European music therapists have lately been<br />

more concerned with doing research on their own clinical work... and<br />

research is understood in a broad sense as a way <strong>of</strong> finding knowledge". If<br />

we paraphrase the stated idea we can say that: music therapists from Latin<br />

American countries, Spain and Portugal have been more concerned with<br />

their clinical work than with research. This can be corroborated by a<br />

bibliographical study on specific music therapy's topics where the majority<br />

<strong>of</strong> the specific publications belong to authors from North-America, Western-<br />
