cover storyShell Retail RolloutAustraliaLong-term blue chip client Shell has rewarded the <strong>Meinhardt</strong>Project Management team with the renewal of their PM contractfor a further 3 + 2 year term.This renewal follows an outstanding Healthand Safety record and record levels ofinnovative cost savings that has enabledShell to further extend its annual CapitalWorks Program. <strong>Meinhardt</strong>’s ProjectManagement Team has recently passed its600th day without a single lost time injury(LTI).Adrian Brown, Program Manager for Shellat <strong>Meinhardt</strong> said: “This renewal builds ona solid 5-year working relationship withShell’s Retail business and a range of otherkey Shell stakeholders, which has seen uswin the Australian Institute of ProjectManagement’s top award and the deliveryof a capital program worth in excess of$200m”.He continued: “We have agreed to aContract with some challengingperformance targets because we haveconfidence in what we do and are willingto be measured by our results. Shanghai Peninsula HotelShanghai, ChinaLocated at the Bund, a prestigious waterfront area in Shanghai,The Peninsula Hotel is a blend of nostalgic charm andglamour.The five-star luxury hotel features over 250guestrooms and suites and entails a mix ofamenities from a swimming pool, healthclub and spa, to high-end retail andrestaurants.A separate tower comprising 34 servicedapartment units will also cater for shortterm residential stays.<strong>Meinhardt</strong> provided full engineering anddesign consultancy services for theproject. HAECO FacilitiesHong KongThe Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO) offerscomprehensive line to heavy maintenance packages to the HongKong International Airport. <strong>Meinhardt</strong> has been the lead design andengineering consultant for a significant number of its projects.Component & AvionicsOverhaul FacilityTseung Kwan O Industrial EstateThe facility is located 50 km east of theHong Kong International Airport.Constructed under a tight timeframe oftwo and half years, the 7,000 sqm buildinghouses component overhaul and avionicsworkshops, as well as a calibration andmetrology centre.Heavy MaintenanceHangarsHong Kong International AirportOccupying a site area of 61,000 sqm, thethree hangars are designed to providedocking and maintenance facilities forwide-bodied aircrafts, from Boeing 747 to767 configurations. These hangars aresupported by component overhaul andrepair workshops, test laboratories,bonded storage for airline spares as wellas office and administration buildings. Storm Water Drainage SystemBilaspur City, IndiaBilaspur is the second largest city of Chhattisgarh. It is spread overan area of 30 sqkm with a population of about 0.4 million. Al Rayadah DevelopmentJeddah, Kingdom of Saudi ArabiaThe Al Rayadah Development will consist mainly of office andretail space with clusters of private villas and luxury residentialtowers.There are other amenities planned withinthe development including a mosque, ahospital, a library, exhibition andconvention halls, as well as a hotel. Due tothe development’s proximity to the KingAbdul Aziz Airport, there is a surroundingheight restriction of 48 metres for thebuildings constructed within thedevelopment.<strong>Meinhardt</strong>’s approximate design land areais 377,342 sqm, out of the total 2,5 millionsqm. University of Bahrain - Collegeof EngineeringSakhir, Bahrain<strong>Meinhardt</strong> will provide designdevelopment, integrated engineeringservices and site supervision for theproposed New College of Engineering atthe University of Bahrain, the largest publicuniversity in the country.The campus will consist of 11 buildings intotal, eight of which are academic/laboratory buildings that are conjoined bya plaza on either side of the campus area.Located at the entrance to the campus isthe college auditorium, a lecture theatreand multipurpose hall.Total built-up area is 50,624 sqm.Client: University of BahrainConcept Architect: Tange AssociatesEstimated Completion: 2013Bright Point HospitalAbu Dhabi, UAE<strong>Meinhardt</strong> has been appointed as the MEP designconsultants for the development of a premier maternitycare hospital in Abu Dhabi.The Bright Point hospital will be built withinan existing 15-storey commercial buildinglocated in the Al Jazeera sports andcultural grounds.Client: The KBBO GroupArchitect: Total Alliance Health PartnersInternational (TAHPI)Estimated Completion: 2012The building design was revised to creatededicated service levels and additionaldedicated lifts. Other features includerevised HVAC systems for improvedenvironmental infection control, higherelectrical loadings for medical facilities andan emergency strategy for backup powersupply.The hospital will offer a range of obstetricsand surgical services, including clinicalsupport for diagnostic and treatment.It will also offer first-class amenities, withroyal and VIP medical suites for exclusiveand personalized care.The conversion of a shellbuilding presents uniquechallenges as the teamneeded to address thedifferent requirements andcompeting demands ofthe health facilities.11
