4. SAFETY<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.2 POLE BELT LIGHTS (Streamers) SPECIFICATION<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.2.1 The light bulbs for the Belt Lights (Streamers) must be as follow:<br />

� For static lights - 240V 7W fused Energy saving golf ball type<br />

� For flashing lights - 240V 15W fused Golf ball type<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.2.2 The Belt Lights (Streamers) must be 2.5mm² 2 core cable. Cable cores must be insulated<br />

red and black. Outside cable insulation must be black. The lamp holders in on the cables<br />

must be black polyurethane bayonetted type, 230V 2A. The top and bottom <strong>of</strong> lamp holder<br />

must be fixed together with silver plated screws and nuts. The top part must connect to the<br />

cable with double brass spikes. The lamp holders to be IP65 rated.<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3 POLE BELT LIGHTS (Streamers) INSTALLATION SPECIFICATION<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3.1 Belt lights (Streamers) must be installed vertical along the side <strong>of</strong> the streetlight pole.<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3.2 Belt lights (Streamers) must be fixed to the pole by means <strong>of</strong> cable ties.<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3.3 All wiring <strong>of</strong> pole Belt Lights must be finished and it must be ensured that the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cape</strong><br />

<strong>Town</strong> Electricity Services can do the termination <strong>of</strong> the Belt Lights (Streamers) at the dinky<br />

connectors, to the existing electrical supply network.<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3.4 Ensure that there are no loose hanging wires. All wires need to be made neat by means <strong>of</strong><br />

cable ties.<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3.5 After installation, the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Electricity Services must be informed and an<br />

inspection must be done.<br />

3.<strong>12</strong>.3.6 In the case where the installation is not as required, or if there is any defects with respect to<br />

the installation, design or sequence <strong>of</strong> the pole Belt Lights, the Contractor need to fix that<br />

defect with no additional cost or claim.<br />

4.1 The Contractor is responsible for the safety <strong>of</strong> all employees and equipment pertaining to and<br />

surrounding the work being carried out until the job is completed.<br />

4.2 The Contractor must provide all personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees (permanent and<br />

temporary) under his control as identified and listed in the Safety Plan. This is to include overalls, boots<br />

and any other protective clothing required.<br />

4.3 The cost <strong>of</strong> PPE for employees is to be included in the rates tendered.<br />

4.4 A well maintained and stocked first aid box supplied by the Contractor shall always be made available<br />

for use in case <strong>of</strong> emergency at the worksite.<br />

4.5 The Contractor must provide the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Electricity Services with a safety plan before<br />

commencement <strong>of</strong> any work.<br />

5. ACCOMMODATION OF TRAFFIC<br />

5.1 All traffic accommodation shall be in accordance with the Site Manual: Safety at Roadwork’s in urban<br />

areas (latest edition), published by the Department <strong>of</strong> Transport.<br />

5.2 The Contractor shall adhere to all traffic regulations and co-ordinate his activities with <strong>of</strong>ficials <strong>of</strong> the<br />

local Traffic Department.<br />

5.3 <strong>No</strong> Contractor may close any road without obtaining permission from the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Electricity<br />

Services.<br />
