EDUCATION & LEADERSHIPEnrichment & Leadership <strong>for</strong> Middle School (ELMS)Enrichment & Leadership <strong>for</strong> Middle School (ELMS) is alicensed after school program running from the end ofschool until 6:00PM. Teens are bused to the <strong>YMCA</strong>/Rotary Teen Center from both middle schools at the closeof school. Daily, students may participate in sportsactivities at Doolittle Park, <strong>YMCA</strong> fitness classes, andhave full use of the <strong>YMCA</strong>/Rotary Teen Center. They areprovided with a healthy snack and homework time duringthe afternoon. Community service, science and artprojects highlight this program. The Middle SchoolAfterschool Program will occasionally take field trips <strong>for</strong>bowling, go-karting and the movies, just to name a few.The children must complete a fundraising activity of theirchoosing in order to help subsidize the cost of this trip.ARTS & HUMANITIESTheater WorkshopsChildren in grades K-5 will work together on all aspectsof a short production: from writing the script to choosingthe costumes and building the set. An enclosed playground,picnic tables and playscape provide a safe, outdoor area. The Walling<strong>for</strong>d <strong>YMCA</strong> wasfirst to venture in operating a full day Kindergarten Program in the Walling<strong>for</strong>dCommunity and is 15 years young.Academic Program runs from 9:00AM-3:00PM. Extended Day hours meet the needs ofworking parents <strong>for</strong> both be<strong>for</strong>e and after school care, 6:45AM-9:00AM and/or3:00PM-6:00PM.The All Day Kindergarten aims to meet the <strong>development</strong>al needs of each child.Scheduling, pacing and rhythm of each activity are consistent with recognized principlesof childhood education. The team competesin the <strong>YMCA</strong> Yankee Cluster League. <strong>YMCA</strong> Swim Teamprovides an opportunity to compete in the Cluster,Regional, and National Levels. Practice consists of stroke<strong>development</strong> and conditioning. All groups may alsoinclude strength training/dry-land conditioning program.Swim meets are matched with children in their own agegroup from other teams. All children are given theopportunity to compete in the swim meets. Membershipis required <strong>for</strong> all Dolphin Swim Team participants.The Summer season will begin the end of April and rununtil the end of July. Private CoachingPrivate and semi-private coaching sessions givecompetitive swimmers the opportunity to work one onone with a certified coach. These sessions perfectstrokes, turns, starts and finishes <strong>for</strong> competitiveswimming. Coaches will employ drills to help the swimmerachieve better and legal starts, turns, and strokes.Each package includes six 30 minute sessions with aWDOL coach. Private coaching is a 1:1 student toinstructor ratio. Semi-Private coaching a 2:1 student toinstructor ratio. PHC focuses on collaborativeengagement with community leaders, how environmentsinfluence health and well-being, and the role that publicpolicy plays in sustaining change. Our mission is toactivate & promote healthy living to improve the overallquality of life <strong>for</strong> Walling<strong>for</strong>d. Activate Walling<strong>for</strong>dstrives to enhance the importance of a healthy lifestyle,build relationships within communities by focusing on theleading health issues facing this country, strengtheningthe capacity <strong>for</strong> coalition building in communities,attracting a new set of volunteers to the ef<strong>for</strong>t to build ahealthy community and increase the community's abilityto promote policy and environmental changes thatencourage and support healthy living. This is NOT aninitiative to build new programs and services <strong>for</strong> thecommunity. However, programs and funding can resonatefrom this initiative. POLICIES & REGULATIONSPOLICIESEAST SIDE FACILITY USE POLICIESChildren over the age of 12 may use the <strong>YMCA</strong> without aparent/guardian.Children 8-11 years old must have a parent/ guardian inthe <strong>YMCA</strong> building.Children 7 and under must have a parent/guardian in theprogram area.EAST SIDE HEALTH & WELLNESS POLICIESChildren 11-12 years old may use the cardio equipmentonly with the supervision of a parent/guardian.Children 13-14 years old may use the Nautilusequipment.Members over the age of 14 may use the free weightequipment.MEMBERSHIP POLICIESEveryone entering building must stop at Welcome Center.Members must scan cards. Visitors, guests, andcommunity participants must check in and sign visitor'slog and liability waiver.Reservations <strong>for</strong> racquetball courts & cycling classes maybe made in advance at the Welcome Center in person orby phone.The Walling<strong>for</strong>d <strong>YMCA</strong> reserves the right to take picturesand video of its participants <strong>for</strong> brochures, publications,our website and other marketing purposes. If you wouldprefer not to be photographed, please stop by theWelcome Center and let us know in writing.Membership Temporary Freeze - Memberships can be onhold <strong>for</strong> a maximum of 3 months per year <strong>for</strong> illness orinjury with appropriate documentation. Please see theWelcome Center <strong>for</strong> a change <strong>for</strong>m.Membership Terminations – Members who wish toterminate their membership much complete themembership termination <strong>for</strong>m 30 days prior to the nextdraft date.Membership Changes - If you need to make changes toyour membership, simply stop by the Welcome Center tofill out a membership change <strong>for</strong>m.Sex Offender Policy - Sex offenders are not welcome atthe <strong>YMCA</strong>. Our new computer software scans ourdatabase and compares it to the registry on a regularbasis.CLASS CANCELLATION POLICYAll programs have a set minimum number of participantsneeded <strong>for</strong> the program to run. The minimum <strong>for</strong> all <strong>youth</strong>classes is 3 participants. The minimum <strong>for</strong> Red CrossCourses is 4 participants. If the minimum number ofparticipants is not reached, the instructor has theauthority to cancel the class or program. If the <strong>YMCA</strong>cancels a class, a 100% refund will be given.CODE OF CONDUCTAt the Walling<strong>for</strong>d <strong>Family</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>, we expect staff,members, volunteers and guests to act in accordancewith our mission and values at all times. At theWalling<strong>for</strong>d <strong>Family</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>, we demonstrate Caring,Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility by:Speaking in respectful tones, refraining from the use ofvulgar or derogatory language and dressingappropriately.Resolving conflicts in a respectful, honest and caringmanner: never resorting to physical contact orthreatening gestures.Respecting the property of others: never engaging intheft or destruction.Creating a safe, caring environment: picking up afterourselves and one another: this is YOUR <strong>YMCA</strong>.The <strong>YMCA</strong> is a drug, alcohol and smoke-free facility.Smoking, alcohol or drug use and/or being under theinfluence of drugs or alcohol on the premises isprohibited.No alcohol will be allowed on the premises unless at asanctioned <strong>YMCA</strong> event.Cooperating with staff and complying with all health andsafety procedures including evacuation of the building.FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE <strong>YMCA</strong> CODE OFCONDUCT MAY RESULT IN A SUSPENSION ORTERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP.REFUND POLICYIf the <strong>YMCA</strong> cancels a class, a 100% refund will be given.Program fees are fully refundable if withdrawal from aclass occurs due to a doctor-documented illness. Avoucher may be issued in lieu of refunds and are valid <strong>for</strong>one year. If withdrawal from a class occurs <strong>for</strong> anyreason after the first class, a 50% refund or credit maybe issued. No refunds will be issued after the secondclass. All refunds are subject to program director’sapproval.INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICYThis policy encompasses ALL <strong>YMCA</strong> programs including:swim team, fitness classes, <strong>youth</strong> sports & swimprograms and Child WatchWhen Walling<strong>for</strong>d Schools have a DELAYEDOPENING, there will be no classes or programs until12:00PM.When Walling<strong>for</strong>d Schools are CANCELLED, there will beno classes or programs until 3:00PM. Evening programswill still be held unless otherwise indicated.Facility closures & additional cancellations will beannounced on our website and channels 3 & 30.If classes are cancelled due to weather, the <strong>YMCA</strong> willmake every attempt to make up a class, but make-ups arenot guaranteed.30


STORM POOL POLICIESAt the first sight and/or sound of a thunder andlightening storm, lifeguards will clear the poolimmediately <strong>for</strong> 30 minutes. Within those 30 minutes ifthe lifeguards do not hear or see anything storm related,swimmers will be allowed back in the swimming pool. Ifthe lifeguards do see lightening and/or hear thunderwithin those 30 minutes, lifeguards are required torepeat the 30 minute time period over again.LAP POOL POLICIES• A lifeguard must be on duty in order <strong>for</strong> the pool tobe open to the public• All persons shall shower with warm water and soapbe<strong>for</strong>e entering the pool• Any persons known or suspected of having acommunicable disease will not be allowed to use thepool• Spitting or nose blowing in the water is prohibited• If a person’s hair is longer than the neckline, his/herhair must be tied back• Regulation bathing suits must be worn - no jeans andno cut-offs• T-shirts may be worn only with prior writtenpermission from Aquatics Director• No food or gum chewing is allowed in the poolfacility - water in plastic containers allowed onlyunder a coaches supervision• Children under 12 must have a parent or guardian(18+) on deck• Children under 8 must have a parent or guardian(18+) in the water• Lap lanes are strictly <strong>for</strong> lap swimmers• Only lap swimmers may use kickboards, pull buoysand fins• No diving masks allowed without prior writtenpermission from the Aquatics Director• All persons must be able to pass a mandatory 25yard swim test without support in order to enter thedeep end (5+ feet past yellow safety line) of theswimming pool• A non-swimmer must be within one arms reach of anadult (18+)• No inflatable swimming aids are allowed• Infants and untrained toddlers must wear swimdiapers• No floatation devices or aides are to be used inwater greater than 5 feet unless accompanied by acertified staff member• Sitting or hanging on lane lines and safety ropes isprohibited• No repetitive breath holding allowed• Diving blocks are not to be used during public swims• Diving is allowed only from the deep end wall• The use of noodles and toys is at the discretion ofthe lifeguard on duty.• A 1:25 lifeguard to swimmer ratio is stronglyen<strong>for</strong>ced.
